Jim Thorpe, Palmerton, Panther Valley and Pleasant Valley all picked up boys basketball wins, while the Bombers, Panthers and Bears also added wins on the girls side in action on Tuesday night.

In other action, the Northern Lehigh and Tamaqua girls were also victorious.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Jim Thorpe-Schuylkill Haven

Jim Thorpe had four players score in double-figures and went on to defeat Schuylkill Haven, 63-52.

The Olympians (1-2) were led by Dean DiBonifazio and his 16 points. JT Otto (12), PJ Coleman (12) and Darius Clark (10) also scored in double digits.

Schuylkill Haven came out on top in the JV game, 47-44.

Palmerton-Catasauqua

Brett Snyder scored 16 of his game-high 21 points to lead a third quarter comeback as the Blue Bombers defeated the Rough Riders 53-50 in the Colonial League opener for both teams.

The Roughies held a 30-18 lead at halftime, but the Blue Bombers (2-0, 1-0) outscored the hosts 22-5 in the quarter to take a 40-35 lead into the final eight minutes and never looked back.

Backing up Snyder was Ben Andrews with 15 points on. Jared Strong had 17 and James Snyder 12 for Catasauqua (0-2, 0-1).

The Roughies salvaged a split with a 52-18 triumph in the JV game.

Brock Mitchell scored 14 of his team-high 18 points in the first half as Panther Valley built a lead and then cruised to a 52-34 win over visiting Freeland MMI.

The Panthers (2-1), who also received 11 points from Nate Mathewson, jumped out to a 29-15 advantage after two quarters of play. Zach Stanko also chipped in with nine points.

For MMI, Ryan Forte tallied a team-high 14 points.

In the JV game, Panther Valley rolled to a 61-31 victory.

Mike Sharpe scored a game-high 21 points and also blocked five shots to lead Pleasant Valley to a 65-57 non-league win over visiting Dieruff.

Nick Stanovick added 12 points for the Bears (2-1), who built a 16-point advantage in the fourth quarter before holding on for the victory. PV also receoved nine points from Rich Irving and eight from Eric Wild.

For the Huskies, Montreal Howard netted a team-high 17 points.

In the JV contest, Pleasant Valley gained a 57-38 win behind 17 points from Evan Shibley.

For the second straight night, Tamaqua dropped a non-league game at home by the exact 57-52 score, this time to Shenandoah Valley.

Josh Dombrosky netted 16 points, Jordan Mays added 15 and Mark Twardzik 10 for Shenandoah Valley (2-1), which went 18-for-25 from the charity stripe, compared with 6-for-10 by the Blue Raiders.

For Tamaqua (1-2), Mike Streisel tallied 15 points while Zach Lakitsky chipped in with 13 and Jake Fegley rimmed 11.

Tamaqua was a 59-46 winner in the JV contest. Derek Rottet led four junior Raiders in double digits with 15 points, followed by Tanner Kehl with 13, Tyler Krell with 12 and Dalton Nunemacher 10.

Northern Lehigh lost a double-digit halftime lead but came back in overtime to gain a 50-44 victory over Bangor in both team's Colonial League opener.

Aimee Oertner scored a game-high 18 points, including a 12-of-13 effort at the foul line. Sonya Josephson added 16 for the Bulldogs, who led 25-15 at the break.

Tina Bastardi also chipped in with nine points for Nolehi (3-0; 1-0).

Bangor was paced by Audrey Schiavone's 11 points.

In the JV game, the Slaters rolled to a 44-9 win.
