Driver injured, car hits mail truck

The driver of a car was seriously injured Saturday morning when involved in a violent crash along SR93 in Nesquehoning. The crash occurred at 7 a.m. as the victim was traveling south descending the Broad Mountain near at the entrance to the Carbon County Communications Center. The car crossed the three lanes of the roadway striking a northbound truck carrying U.S. Mail. Upon impact the car ripped in two, sliding back across the roadway to the southbound lanes. The victim was transported to an area trauma center. It is believed there was at least one other injury. The roadway was closed for several hours. Responding were the Nesquehoning, New Columbus and Hauto fire companies as well as ambulances from Nesquehoning, Lehighton and Lansford. Chief of Police Sean Smith in investigating the incident.
