A contract was awarded to Wexcon Inc., of Mohrsville, replacing a water line on Wood Street, Cumbola, Blythe Township, by the Schuylkill County commissioners in action taken at the work session held Wednesday at the courthouse in Pottsville. The contract is in the amount of $60,627.

The commissioners discussed two lease renewals, one for the premises at 201 N. Centre St., Pottsville, which is also referred to as the Pottsville Nutrition Center, and a lease renewal between the Borough of Orwigsburg and the county for office space on the second floor of the borough building which is used as the office of District Justice James Ferrier.

The commissioners also are seeking bids for the disposal of solid waste from the courthouse, prison, Human Service Building, Adult Probation Building, all located in Pottsville; Rest Haven Home and Hospital in North Manheim Township, and the Senior Regional Resource Center in Mahanoy City.

Approval was given the STS (Schuylkill Transportation System (STS) Municipal Authority Board to seek a grant of $1.6 million from the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) to improve the county bus line. The commissioners also approved matching funds of $64,144. The fleet of buses will be upgraded by nine new ones, including three heavy duty buses.

The Human Resources Department informed the commissioners of three retirements, Charles Ross, Orwigsburg, executive director of the planning commission, effective Dec. 24; Sally Koons, Shenandoah Heights, second deputy in the Clerk of Courts Office, effective Dec. 9; and Diane Nevadomsky, Pottsville, second deputy in the Register of Wills Office, effective Dec. 3.
