At 2:10 a.m. today, emergency personnel were called to Tuscarora Park Road in between Barnesville and Tamaqua in response to an overturned maroon Chevrolet Malibu on its roof. Rescue personnel spent time treating two injured passengers that were found walking away from the accident scene about three quarters of a mile north on Tuscarora Park Road. A witness stated both passengers were injured and covered with blood and one of them lost consciousness and was taken to Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township, via ambulance, while the other injured passenger was also treated separately. The injured passengers stated the female driver, from Mahanoy City, got out of the overturned vehicle and traveled south on Tuscarora Park Road while they went north. Hometown fire police volunteers closed the road for a few hours while members of the Tamaqua Rescue Squad and other emergency personnel spent considerable time searching the surrounding areas for signs of the missing female driver. From the skid and deep scrape marks in the road, the missing driver appeared to overshoot her turn while driving south which lead to the vehicle hitting an embankment and eventually flipping on its roof. As of press time this morning, the whereabouts of the missing female driver and the names and conditions of the injured passengers are unknown. Volunteers from Hometown Fire Company, Quakake Fire Company, Tamaqua Rescue Squad, Tamaqua ambulance and the Hometown fire police responded. Rush Township police are still investigating.
