A Palmerton man faces multiple charges of rape, sexual assault, aggravated indecent assault, indecent assault and incest for incidents that occurred last summer.

Joshua Barlip, 19, of 450 Lafayette Avenue, faces six counts each of aggravated indecent assault and indecent assault, along with three counts each of rape, sexual assault and incest.

Barlip was scheduled to have a preliminary hearing this morning before District Judge Bruce Appleton of Palmerton.

Barlip is currently incarcerated in Carbon County Prison in lieu of $100,000, 10-percent bail.

According to the affidavit of probable cause filed by patrolman Robert Cohowicz of the Palmerton police the officer received information on sexual assaults perpetrated by Barlip on three separate occasions, July 3, 4, and 30 of 2009.

On Aug. 26, 2009, at around 7:29 p.m., Cohowicz interviewed a juvenile female at the police station, the affidavit says. At that time the female stated that on July 3, 2009, she was with Barlip in their basement at about 10 p.m.

She stated that at that time Barlip was heavily intoxicated and pushed her onto his bed and started kissing her. She stated that Barlip attempted to pull her pants off but she put up a struggle.

She then described how he assaulted her.
