The Carbon County Conservation District held an award ceremony for its 35th annual poster contest on Thursday evening. Nearly 100 parents and their children turned out for the event and five children walked away with first place ribbons for their work on posters that illustrate the phrase "Conservation Habits = Healthy Habitats."
Audrey Wargo, district secretary, hosted the presentation. Wargo has been handling the poster contest for the district for nearly 12 years.
Students in Kindergarten through 12th grade participated in the contest. Awards were given to students in first, second and third places as well as honorable mention. The following students were recognized during the awards ceremony.
In the Kindergarten and first grade category, Alyssa Keiper of L.B. Morris elementary won honorable mention, Brandy Montemuro of L.B. Morris won 3rd place, Megan Aaron of SS Peter & Paul won 2nd place and Caiden Hurley of L.B. Morris won the first place ribbon.
In the category for grades 2 and 3, Cobe Frycklund of L.B. Morris won honorable mention, Katherine Aaron of SS Peter & Paul also won honorable mention, Emily Zoscin of Weatherly elementary won 3rd place, Hannah Stefansky of Weatherly elementary won 2nd place and Austin Miller of SS Peter & Paul won first place.
In the category for grades 4 through 6, Crystal Nace of Panther Valley elementary won honorable mention, Gabrielle Tout of Panther Valley won 3rd place, Regan Carroll of St. Joseph Regional Academy won 2nd place and Emma Sawyer of Lehighton Middle School won first place.
In the category for grades 7 through 9, Emily Loudon of Panther Valley Middle School won 3rd place, Riley Carroll of St. Joseph Regional Academy won second place and Emily Cerimele of Lehighton Middle School won first place.
In the final category, grades 10 through 12, Dylan Callahan of Weatherly High School won honorable mention, Erin Sarosky of Weatherly High School won 3rd place, Samantha Wheeler of Weatherly High School won 2nd place and Jenette Stadnik of Weatherly High School won first place.
