STROUDSBURG, Pa. (AP) – An eastern Pennsylvania judge has refused to accept a guilty plea from a man accused of killing his girlfriend and their toddler son in Monroe County, and prosecutors say they will take the defendant to trial.

Twenty-four-year-old Michael Parrish had planned to plead guilty Wednesday to first-degree murder in the July 6 deaths of 21-year-old Victoria Adams and 2-year-old Sidney Parrish in Effort.

But when he answered questions asked by Deputy Public Defender William Sayer, prosecutors objected and Monroe County President Judge Ronald Vican rejected the plea, calling Parrish's statements a defense. Parrish had said that he felt rage when Adams came home that night, suspecting that she was cheating on him.

Members of the victim's family said they were disappointed with the turn of events.
