The Lehighton track and field team took their non-league meet against Northern Lehigh rather "personal."

The Indians' all-weather track and a little motivation from head coach Randy Frey helped.

"I'll tell you what these kids have heart," Frey said. "They had run on two cinder tracks before this meet and I told them, 'This is home. You have an arch-rival in Northern Lehigh coming up here.

"'You're going to have to give it all. Just PR. We'll worry about points later. Just PR.'"

And, that's what Lehighton did as several Indians set 'personal records.'

Nine Indians "PR'd" as the boys captured a 82-68 victory over the Bulldogs and five different Lady Indians set personal best in a 95-55 victory over the visitors.

Seniors Abby Frey and Vanessa Rimbey took their records to the next leval as they set school records.

Frey broke the school record in the 200 meter dash while she also tied a school record in the 100.

"It feels great," said Abby Frey, who recorded top honors in all four events she took part in 100, 200, long jump and the 400 relay team. "To have everybody there in your hometown watching you break those records, it feels amazing.

"I mean there's nothing like breaking a record (in the 200) that has stood for a long time (since 1995)."

Meanwhile, her classmate, teammate and probably one of her closest friends did the same herself.

Rimbey, who also played field hockey with Frey on this year's PIAA State Championship team, took her own record to a higher level.

A year ago, Rimbey posted a mark of 5-feet, 5-inches in the high jump.

Yesterday afternoon, Rimbey raised the bar by an inch, which set a new school mark of 5-6.

"A year ago, I thought to myself, 'Is this going to be as high as I can go,' as far as jumping any higher," Rimbey said. "But, I always come out with the attitude 'Let's just do it. One more big jump Vanessa.' It just feels really good.

"Now, I know I have it again for now."

While Frey and Rimbey stole the highlight reel with their record breaking marks, teammates Sheena White (shot put - 31-3), Corrine McConville (javelin - 112-5) and Jordyn Miller (pole vault - 9-0) had memorable days as well.

White (discus, shot put) and Miller (pole vault, triple jump) also joined Frey and Rimbey (110H, high jump) as multiple winners.

In the boys meet, Giuseppe Caruso (100), Leon Adams (800), Nate Black (110H, 300H), Eric Whiteman (shot put), Levi Haldeman (discus), Jon Strauss (javelin), Cory Kresge (long jump), Ian Christman (triple jump) and Lucas Millen (pole vault) made it a day they'll remember for a long time. It marked the first time the Indians won a dual meet in a few years and they all set personal bests in the victory.

"This is huge for them," said Randy Frey, of the boys winning. "This is their first win probably since 2006 - somewhere around there. But, again, it's about PR's. About three-quarters of the boys PR'd today. I mean by seconds, by feet.

"They just did an awesome job. That's what we ask of them and they did a great job doing it."

Kelsey Gallagher was the lone multiple winner for the Bulldogs winning the 400 and 800 meter runs.
