A Tuscarora woman faces charges of driving under the influence (DUI) of alcohol following an incident in Tamaqua on Monday, April 5.
Police were on patrol in the area of the Five Points intersection at 12:25 a.m. when they observed a green 1993 Chevrolet Corsica make an illegal turn from Railroad Street on to Mauch Chunk Street. Police followed the Chevrolet as it traveled north, weaving back and forth in the lane, then crossing the center line on Pine Street. The car then turned left onto Vine Street, after nearly striking several parked cars. The driver was identified as Jennifer Miller, 28.
A vehicle stop was made in the Vine and Washington streets area. Miller was given, and failed, several field sobriety tests. She was transported to a Pottsville Hospital for blood work.
Her blood alcohol content was determined to be .20 percent, more than twice the legal limit.
