BANGOR - The Bulldogs are now officially on a roll.

Since a Week 2 loss to Wilson, Northern Lehigh has won five straight and outscored opponents 226-105. Friday night they rolled over the Slaters at Bangor Memorial Park, 49-7.Northern Lehigh got a big night from its workhorse back, big plays from a few other offensive players and a shut-down defensive effort against one of the Colonial League's best dual-threat quarterbacks."We're peaking at the right time, heading into the playoffs" said sophomore middle linebacker Kirk Bender. "Hopefully we keep it rolling."Running back Cody Remaley, who's had three games over 200 yards this season, had a typical day at the office with 27 carries for 160 yards (5.9 yards per carry) and four touchdowns.With Bangor trying its best to key on Remaley, other Bulldogs got free for some big play.Jake Kern busted off 38 yards on three carries running an inside reverse that the Slaters couldn't solve. Tyler Bolton completed just one of his two passes, but it was a 34-yard completion that helped set up a touchdown. Bolton also ran for 29 yards. Fullback Matt Gill picked up 24 yards when he wasn't clearing the way for Remaley."I love when we spread the ball around," Remaley said. "Everyone's a weapon. Our line is doing an awesome job. They get on blocks; they stay on blocks. They lead me to the end zone."The Northern Lehigh offensive line got the best of Bangor's 3-5 front. Even when there was no gaping hole the backs still seem to exploit a tiny seem. The Bulldogs ran just two plays that went for negative yardage."Our line definitely opens up holes for the backs, but not every play," said Northern Lehigh head coach Joe Tout. "Our kids do a nice job of still getting three yards. That takes it out of a defense, when they're making a play and its second and seven rather than second and 13, that's huge."Bangor couldn't stop the Bulldogs, which didn't punt or turn the ball over on downs. They scored on every possession except the three in which they turned the ball over.Northern Lehigh's defense put up another stout effort in the game. Slater quarterback Scott LaValva is a four-year starter who can run and throw. He ran for 107 yards, but had no success throwing the ball. Two of his first three passes were picked off. He went 3-for-10 with three picks on the night. All three completions, and 63 of the Slaters' 165 total yards, came on their 56-second touchdown drive at the end of the first half."We had to shut one player down and we pretty much keyed on him and shut him down," Bender said."Our kids are flying around defensively," Tout said. "The turnovers are huge because teams are going to throw the ball on us. Early tonight they tried to throw and I thought our kids did a great job. You pick two off right away, now you're (opponent is) one dimensional."Northern Lehigh picked off four passes in the game and recovered one fumble.The Bulldogs should have a District 11 Class AA playoff spot locked up with two games to go."I was hoping to get into the Eastern Conference (playoffs) last year because I thought we had one or two wins in us at the end of the season," Tout said.Northern Lehigh's got it clicking a lot now with the playoffs just a few weeks away.
