State police at Lehighton are investigating a shooting incident that was reported in Carbon County.

Troopers said unknown persons filed a weapon at the home of Vincent and Julia Castillo, who reside at 125 Halter Lane and Koch Road in Kunkletown, Towamensing Township.Troopers said the projectile, possibly fired from Koch Road, traveled through the exterior wall, then an interior door, where it entered into wood of a door jam.Contacted this morning, Vincent Castillo explained to the TIMES NEWS what happened."It entered through the building, went to the inside door of a spare room through our bedroom into the wall right over our bed," Vincent Castillo said. "It must have lost momentum [because] it ricocheted and came through the panel of the closet."Vincent Castillo said he and his wife were fortunate they weren't home at the time of the incident."We could be dead," he said. "I have grandchildren that visit with us, and god forbid they were up there."The incident is believed to have occurred sometime between 9 a.m. Sept. 27 and 4 p.m. Oct. 4. Damages were estimated at $500.Julia Castillo told the TIMES NEWS she and her husband during that time were away in New York to visit relatives."We were visiting family in Long Island," Julia Castillo said. "So, we don't know [exactly] when it happened."Julia Castillo said state police visited their home this past Sunday."They don't know where it came from," she said. "It had to be some place high, [because] it went past our neighbor's house and into our house, into the side of the house, right over the bed and into the wall, and lodged in the molding of the closet."
