Jim Thorpe driver facing DUI count

A Jim Thorpe driver is facing a charge of driving under the influence following an incident in Nesquehoning.

Borough police reported on Oct. 10 about 2:05 a.m. Officer Carl Breiner observed a sports utility vehicle on SR93 coming in the opposite direction partially in his lane of travel. Breiner pulled to the right to avoid the SUV and observed it go back into its lane of travel and then off the shoulder. Breiner turned his patrol vehicle around and conducted a traffic stop.The driver was identified as Paul Gavornik. He displayed signs of intoxication and admitted to have been drinking. He attempted to perform field sobriety tests but could only complete one and decided not to perform any more. When asked by the officer why, Gavornik allegedly said, "Because I'm under the influence."He was placed under arrest for DUI. A blood test revealed he was three times over the legal limit of .08 percent.
