Bill Daniels, the new owner of the Pine Street Pub, 401 Pine Street, Tamaqua, is opening his doors to the needy this Thanksgiving Day.

For Thanksgiving this Thursday, from 1 to 4 p.m., Daniels is inviting the community to join him for dinner and fellowship at the pub."It's a free dinner for anyone in need," said Daniels, who moved to Tamaqua at the beginning of the month, taking over the Pine Street Pub on Nov. 3.The generosity on Thanksgiving in nothing new for Daniels, originally a native of Wildwood, New Jersey who now calls Tamaqua his home."This is something I've been doing for five years now, down at my bars at the shore, and I am continuing it here," Daniels explained. "I want to give back to people and give them a place to come and eat on Thanksgiving. You can come here, eat a meal and be with someone. It's better than being by yourself."There are no reservations required and no questions asked. Anyone interested in participating just needs to come at the designated time.The meal will consist of turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing, cranberry sauce, green beans and pumpkin rolls, served in the pub's dining room area."Just come in and eat," said Daniels. "Sit down, eat, watch football and talk to somebody. The main thing is for people not to be by themselves for Thanksgiving. I'll give you a meal, and you can have someone to talk to and be friends with."Daniels said he is not trying to compete with The Salvation Army's Tamaqua Corps, which is also offering a free Thanksgiving community dinner at its center at 105 West Broad Street as it does annually, but he wants to give back to his new hometown in the spirit of the holiday."I have a place here for people to come and eat and be with people, if they want," he added.For more information on the Pine Street Pub's free Thanksgiving Dinner, call (570) 668-1669.
