The Tamaqua Senior Citizens group will not have a meeting this week due to the Thanksgiving holiday.
Last week's meeting was attended by 84 members. President Jean Yanick conducted the business session.
Eleanor Roberts offered the invocation, entitled "The Christian Life." Secretary Eleanor Schmerfeld offered her weekly report. A moment of silence was observed in memory of Ann Seladones and Mildred Yanacek.
Vice President Jean Behr reported sending a sympathy card to Frank Morris. Antionette Cicioni was welcomed back to the group. Readings were offered by Jean Machamer.
Anyone 55 or older is welcome to join.
South Ward news
The monthly meeting of the South Ward Neighborhood Committee, scheduled for this Thursday, has been cancelled.
The Rev. Rodney Wells will officiate at the 9 a.m. worship service this Sunday in St. Peter's Union Church, Mantzville. The service will include a special Thankoffering service by the Women's Association of St. Peter's as well as special music by the Cherub Choir. Sunday school classes will meet at 10:15 a.m.
Also on Sunday, the Hanging of the Greens will follow the morning worship service. Participants will then share in a covered dish luncheon and a brief service to herald the Advent season. The Confirmation Class will meet at 1 p.m. The Cub Scout Committee will meet at 5 p.m. and the Cub Scout Den will meet at 6 p.m.
The Rev. Kevin Roberts will officiate at the 10:30 a.m. worship service this Sunday in Bethany Evangelical Congregational Church. Missionaries Brian and Missy Wagner, and their family, will be special guests, sharing details of their ministry in Kenya, Africa. Nursery care is available. Sunday school classes will meet at 9:30 a.m.
Activities for next week include: Tuesday, Prayer Time at 8:30 a.m. and GriefShare at 1:30 p.m.; Wednesday, Tamaqua Youth Ministry at 6:30 p.m.; Saturday, Praise practice will be held at 9 a.m.
