Charges have been filed against a New York man that was arrested in Lansford earlier this week.

Lansford police report that Malcolm Harris, 22, of 65 Queen St., Roosevelt, N.Y., faces charges in connection with an incident that took place at Tunnel and Patterson streets, at 8:50 a.m., on Dec. 22. He fled police after they discovered that he possessed a handgun. He was taken into custody but had hid the gun. Officers located the .22 caliber semi-automatic pistol under an outside compressor next to Marco's Pizza.Harris is charged with possession of a firearm with an altered serial number; possession of a firearm without a license; and possession of a firearm. All charges are felonies. He was also charged with scattering rubbish.He was arraigned before Magistrate Casimir Kosciolek and bail was set at $25,000 cash. He was committed to Carbon County Prison and is awaiting a preliminary hearing, scheduled for Jan. 6.Assisting in the incident were Lansford Police Chief John Turcmanovich, Det./Sgt. Jack Soberick, Officer Joshua Tom, and Officer Jason Helmer; as well as Nesquehoning Police Chief Sean Smith and Summit Hill Police Chief Joseph Fittos.Charges were filed by Officer Jeff Ohl. It was incorrectly stated in yesterday's article that Officer Chris Ondrus was one of the officers at the incident.
