The Panther Valley School Board met briefly last night, following an hour long executive session. Directors David Hiles, Anthony Pondish, Anthony DeMarco, and Koreen Nalesnik did not attend the meeting. No reasons were given for their absense. After newly elected Board President Jeff Markovich called the meeting to order, and announced the topics of discussion from the executive session, Director Mickey Angst noted that Markovich's comments were an insufficient explanation of what went on in the session.

Markovich then tried to get the meeting's agenda approved and Angst again questioned an item on the proposed agenda related to bringing back former superintendent Robert Mauro as an emergency replacement for the high school principal's position, which will be vacated by George Gillespie next month.

The proposed item stated that Mauro would receive a $300/day stipend, not to exceed $16,000. Angst asked if the matter had been referred to the personnel committee. Markovich and Porembo explained to Angst that the item had in fact been dropped from the agenda. Angst proceeded to vote against the proposed agenda.

Although the Board reorganized last week, the position of secretary still needed to be filled. Angst nominated newcomer Irene Genther for the position and Bill Hunsicker nominated Donna Trimmel for the position. Angst made the comment, "Before we roll call on that, I hope that either one of these candidates realizes that the proper function of the secretary is to make the agenda."

At that point, Hunsicker stood up and proceeded to leave the meeting, saying, "I don't need it, not tonight," referring to Angst's comments. The meeting then had to be adjourned because there was no longer a quorum present. The next meeting is scheduled for January 14th., at 7pm.
