A crash along Interstate 81 in Schuylkill County was probed by state police at Frackville, who also reported on two hit and run accidents investigated by troopers.
Troopers said the crash on I81 occurred about 3:50 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 5, in Ryan Township, as Becca E. Shenk, 19, of Mt. Holly Springs, Cumberland County, was southbound in the right lane when she lost control of her 1998 Ford Contour due to the road being snow-covered. The car struck the right concrete barrier and after impact continued to spin across both lanes of travel. Troopers said David P. Benton, 45, of Cicero, N.Y., was also southbound in a 2009 Chevrolet Silverado 3500 and hit the rear of the Ford as it entered his lane of travel.
Shenk, Benton and his passenger, Andrew U. Casey, 44, of Bridgeport, N.Y., were all not injured. Damages were disabling to both vehicles. Troopers cited Shenk for driving on roadways laned for traffic.
Troopers investigated a hit and run on Sunday along SR443 east of Pleasant Valley Road, in East Brunswick Township. Troopers said a 1995 Ford Explorer was driven westbound when it left the road and rolled over several times. It came to rest down an embankment about 70-feet off the road on its roof. The driver fled the scene, troopers said. The accident occurred sometime overnight of Saturday into Sunday.
The second hit and run occurred on Saturday about 3:45 p.m. along SR924, in the area of Eagle Rock Resort entrance in East Union Township.
Troopers said Kelly Crossman, of Media, Delaware County, was southbound when she began to slow down to make a right turn into the resort. At his point her 2002 Honda Accord was struck in the rear of a Ford Sports Utility Vehicle whose driver then fled the scene. The fleeing vehicle was described as being dark blue in color and a 1990s model with front end damage.
Anyone with information on either hit and run accident is asked to call troopers at (570) 874-5300.
