State police at Schuylkill Haven reported investigating a rear-end crash in which one driver was cited at a Schuylkill County intersection.

Troopers said Sarah Rose Lewis, 49, of Auburn, was northbound on SR61 in West Brunswick Township, on Friday, May 7, about 1:45 p.m. and slowed for traffic stopped ahead of her at Municipal Road. The rear of her 2006 Toyota Matrix was struck by the front of a 2004 Honda CRV operated by Dev R. Dawar, 71, of Northampton.

The driver of a tractor-trailer rig that crashed early Monday, May 7, in Schuylkill County has been identified.

On Saturday, May 8, Mahoning Township police took a report at the Ukrainian Homestead in the 1500 block of Packerton Dam Road in regard to the theft of approximately $500 worth of copper piping/tubing that was stolen from a building on the property.

The theft occurred sometime during the week.

Police said all of the visible copper piping/tubing was cut from the toilets, sinks, water cooler, water heater and at the bar area, which was being remodeled.

Entry to the building was made by cutting off a padlock to a door by the bar area.

A Schuylkill County driver was charged with driving under the influence (DUI) following an incident about 8:27 p.m. on April 30.

State police at Frackville said Kenneth Richards, 71, of St. Clair, was stopped along SR1006 in Ryan Township for a motor vehicle code violation. He was found to be under the influence and was transported to the Schuylkill Medical Center, Pottsville, for a blood test.

The test results showed he was over the legal limit of .08 percent and was charged with DUI, troopers said.

Tamaqua police were on patrol at 1:30 a.m. Thursday, May 6, when they saw a man slumped over on a bench in front of Schick's Cafe on Mauch Chunk Street.

They stopped to investigate and found Steven Genery, 23, of 115 Catawissa St., Tamaqua.

Genery appeared to be highly intoxicated and officers were initially unable to awaken him. Once they were able to rouse him, they placed him in the police cruiser and transported him back to the station where he could rest undisturbed.

He was released at 4 a.m. with a citation for public drunkenness.

State police at Lehighton have reported a harassment incident that occurred last month at Palmerton Area High School.

Sometime between 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on April 29, a 17-year-old white male juvenile from Kunkletown said inappropriate words to the victim, a 38-year-old white female from Slatington, who is a teacher.

Charges are to be handled within the department.

Slatington police reported on three arrests made early Friday, May 7.

About 1:04 a.m. officers responded to the area of W. Church St. and Long Alley to a report of a person causing a disturbance. As the result of an investigation police arrested Sarah Vince, 22, of 511 Main St., Apt. 2, Slatington, for disorderly conduct.

At 2:34 a.m. officers responded to the front of 832 Main St., to a report of an intoxicated male. Officers reported the arrest of Dennis R. Frey, 57, of 3434 Franklin Square, Northampton, for public drunkenness.

State police at Lehighton continue to investigate a report of a theft of a motor vehicle in Monroe County.

The incident occurred when unknown persons arrived at the property of Walter Lengel, 72, of 22 Blue Mountain Village, Saylorsburg, Ross Township, sometime between 12:30-5:30 a.m. May 2.

They proceeded to remove Lengel's red 2006 Kawasaki Vulcan motorcycle and attempted to hot wire the motorcycle but were unsuccessful.

They then pushed the motorcycle a short distance down the road where they abandoned it.

Two Carbon County males have been charged with possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

State police at Lehighton conducted a traffic stop at 12:15 p.m. May 2 in East Penn Township, which yielded a DUI-suspended driver.

Both the driver, Jason Shoenberger, 32, of Lehighton, and the passenger, David Dicher, 37, of Palmerton, were each found to be in possession of small amounts of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

Both were taken into custody and charged.

A traffic stop in Monroe County yielded a fugitive from justice wanted out of New Jersey for drug charges.

State police at Lehighton say Thomas Carey, 33, of Stroudsburg, was stopped at 12:30 p.m. May 2 at Doney Road at Weir Lake Road in Chestnuthill Township.
