Coaldale Police Chief Tim Delaney has released his 2010 report:

Police handled eight assaults, 12 burglaries and two larcenies.

They also dealt with 55 cases of disorderly conduct; 37 cases of driving under the influence; 13 drug offenses; eight cases each of stolen property and vandalism; six sex offenses; three cases each of fraud, liquor violations, family disputes and weapons offenses; two cases of forgery and 47 miscellaneous cases.

The Rush Township police reported investigating the following motor vehicle accidents.

On Jan. 9 at 5:04 p.m. Sharon Leitzel, 41, of Quakake, was traveling east on West Main Street when she lost control due to snow drifts on the road.

Leitzel was operating a Toyota Rav 4. Her vehicle was towed from the scene.

On Jan. 8 at 10:39 a.m. Lauren Fedor, 18, Tamaqua, and Joseph Kmetz, 41, of Hometown, were involved in a vehicle accident. Fedor failed to stop at a stop sign at Susquehanna St. and Beechwood Lane.

State police at Lehighton reported on several driving under the influence (DUI) arrests made by troopers recently.

On Dec. 28 about 8:30 p.m. troopers stopped James Michael Vaughn, 42, of Jim Thorpe, along SR903 at Church Road, in Penn Forest Township, Carbon County, for DUI. Troopers said the charge is pending.

A speed trap set up along Interstate 78 in Upper Macungie Township, Lehigh County, which resulted in 13 drivers being cited, including one clocked at going 111.11 miles-per-hour.

State police at Fogelsville said the speed enforcement operation was conducted on Monday, Jan. 10, using a state police aircraft. Troopers said there is a zero tolerance for speeding and other traffic violations.

State police at Lehighton identified the drivers involved in a three-vehicle crash that occurred about 11:25 a.m. on Jan. 4 along SR209 in Towamensing Township, Carbon County, but did not give any details of the accident.

Troopers said Dixie L. Filardi, 54, of Saylorsburg, was operating a 2006 Chevrolet Silverado truck; Edward J. Horgan Jr., 47, of Forest City, Susquehanna County, driving a 2008 Peterbilt 330 truck; and Michael J. Taschler, 57, of Kunkletown, driving a 2000 Dodge Durango, were all involved in the crash.

Disorderly conduct

Joshua Mertz, 33, of 360 D Lehigh Avenue, Palmerton, was cited for disorderly conduct. The violation occurred on Dec. 29 at 11:33 p.m. in the 300 block of Lehigh Avenue.

Mertz was also cited for disorderly conduct on Dec. 30 at 1:43 a.m. in the 300 block of Lehigh Avenue.


William Derr Jr., 46, of 869 West Penn Pike, Tamaqua, was cited for speeding. The violation occurred on Jan. 5 at 12:12 p.m. on SR248 east.

Pocono Mountain Regional police reported investigating a rollover crash that occurred about 5:56 p.m. on Jan. 5.

Police were dispatched to SR423 in Tobyhanna Township and found a vehicle rolled over with the driver entrapped after going down an embankment and resting on its side.

The driver was identified as Gary Lesh, 68, of Pocono Pines. Police managed to free Lesh from his vehicle along with Pocono Mountain Regional ambulance personnel. He was flown to the Community Medical Center, Scranton, and admitted in stable condition with moderate injuries, police said.

State police at Frackville reported investigating a harassment incident in Schuylkill County in which one person will be charged.

Troopers said the incident occurred on Monday, Jan. 10, about 3 p.m. at 19 Main St., Middleport. Troopers said during an altercation Karen Rosemarie Brennan, 47, allegedly made physical contact with Markea Weller, 20, both of Middleport, by punching her in the stomach.

Brennan will be charged with harassment, troopers said.

A Schuylkill County driver is facing a charge of driving under the influence (DUI) following a one-vehicle crash that occurred about 6:45 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 10, along Peach Mountain Road, at New Wade Road, in Norwegian Township.

State police at Schuylkill Haven said Michael Allen Kramer Jr., 18, of Cressona, crashed his vehicle into a pole along the road. He was found to be under the influence of marijuana and placed under arrest. The charge is pending test results, troopers said.

Pocono Mountain Regional police reported on several arrests made by officers recently.

On Dec. 29 about 2:05 a.m. officers stopped a vehicle traveling westbound on Long Pond Road near Patricia Drive, in Tunkhannock Township, for numerous traffic violations. Several juveniles from the Saylorsburg area were in the vehicle and found to have been drinking alcohol. Three of the occupants were charged with underage drinking, police said. Because of their ages, their names were not released.
