A Schuylkill County man has been charged with selling 16 veterans' grave markers at a county scrap yard.

State police at Schuylkill Haven charged Samuel Steffie, 40, of Schuylkill Haven, with receiving stolen property and desecration of venerated objects.

Troopers said he sold the markers at the USS Achey Scrap Yard in Orwigsburg on July 11.

The markers are the property of the Schuylkill County Department of Veterans Affairs.

A Monroe County teen was jailed on Wednesday, Nov. 2, following a domestic dispute in which he allegedly assaulted a family member.

State police at Fern Ridge responded to 908 Mountain Road, in the Sun Valley development, Effort, in Chestnuthill Township, about 4:30 p.m.

Troopers said Kevin Joseph Shevlin-Smith, 18, confronted Joseph Brian Shevlin, 39, and the two got into a physical altercation. During the altercation the teen grabbed the victim by the neck and attempted to stab him with a pair of kitchen scissors.

State police at Fern Ridge are looking for a hit and run driver involved in a crash on Oct. 26 along Neola Road, just south of South Lane, in Jackson Township, Monroe County.

Troopers said Denise L. Tucker, 48, of Stroudsburg, was driving a 2009 Chrysler 300 southbound while another vehicle was in a driveway. For unknown reasons the driver in the driveway drove onto Neola Road in front of Tucker. Tucker's car struck the other vehicle on the rear drivers' side bumper with the front of the Chrysler.

A Monroe County driver is facing a charge of driving under the influence (DUI) following an incident that occurred about 9:47 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 2, along SR611 in Mount Pocono.

Pocono Mountain Regional police said they were assisting in looking for a vehicle involved in a hit and run crash. Information provided advised police that the suspect vehicle was heading north on 611 towards Mount Pocono.

A Carbon County teen was placed in a detention center after he was charged with assaulting a police officer.

State police at Fern Ridge said troopers were dispatched to Lake Drive in Lake Harmony, Kidder Township, about 4:52 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 31, to assist township police with a domestic incident.

On scene troopers were told a 15-year-old male and a female were engaged in a dispute during which the male threatened a township officer if he "touched his mother."

State police at Schuylkill Haven are investigating a burglary and attempted theft incident in Schuylkill County.

Troopers said unknown criminals arrived at the West Brunswick Township building, located along Municipal Rd., and pulled up to the gas pump area. They then entered the rear equipment shed by breaking open a door. They then attempted to break a hasp loop off an electrical panel box to turn on the gas pumps.

Troopers said they were unable to activate the gas pumps and fled the scene.

Two male juveniles, ages 16 and 17, were cited for disorderly conduct a school bus.

Jim Thorpe police said the two were on a Getz Transportation school bus when they used extreme profanity. The incident occurred on Wednesday, Oct. 19 about 11 a.m.

State police at Lehighton reported on three burglaries probed by troopers.

Troopers said a break-in occurred at a residence at 953 Kunkletown Road, in Eldred Township, Monroe County, sometime between Oct. 16 and Wednesday, Nov. 2. Entry was made by smashing a rear window. Once inside the criminals removed all copper piping from the basement area. The home is owned by Casey O'Connor, 32, of Monroe Township, N.J.

The Wilkes-Barre enforcement office of the state liquor control board has cited two Carbon County licensees for violation of the state liquor code.

Beaver Run Rod & Gun Club, 676 Stewart Creek Rd., Mahanoy Township, was cited for fortified, adulterated and/or contaminated liquor; and for possessed or operated gambling devices or paraphernalia or permitted gambling or lotteries, poolselling and/or bookmaking on the licensed premises.

A Carbon County driver is facing a charge of driving under the influence (DUI) following a one vehicle crash that occurred about 3:15 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 1, in Monroe County.

State police at Lehighton said Edwin James Wolfe, 47, of Meckesville, was northbound on SR209 in Polk Township when he said he swerved to avoid another vehicle in the opposite direction.

Wolfe lost control of his 1998 Jeep Cherokee which traveled across the oncoming lane and rolled over.
