A Monroe County man is facing a charge of arson and other counts following an incident that occurred about 3:57 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 14.

State police at Fern Ridge said they received multiple calls from witnesses of a barn on fire along Astolat Road, near SR115, in Chestnuthill Township, at the time and date stated. The callers identified a man at the scene as being in a gold in color Ford Taurus before and during the fire, then leaving the scene. The suspect was stopped and taken into custody.

A Jim Thorpe man was jailed on several counts following an incident on Friday, Jan. 13.

Borough police said they were dispatched about 4:06 a.m. to 418 School St. for a reported of a female being assaulted by her ex-boyfriend, who was identified as Peter Hydro, 43, of 711 Lehigh St.

While en route, police observed Hydro standing at the corner of Sixth and North streets. Hydro was detained and transported to the scene of the alleged incident.

State police at Schuylkill Haven are investigating a theft incident at the Tremont Nursing Home, located at 44 Donaldson Rd., in Tremont.

Troopers said Cindy Zimmerman, of Pine Grove, reported two hubcaps on his 2007 Toyota Corolla was stolen while parked at the home. The theft occurred sometime between 11 pm. on Jan. 12 and 7 a.m. on Jan. 13.

A woman was cited at the Lehighton state police barracks.

Troopers said about 10:45 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 13, Jodi Spencer Tassinari, 19, of Saylorsburg, arrived at the barracks to speak with a trooper in reference to an incident that occurred the previous day. While at the barracks it was determined that Tassinari had consumed alcohol.

She was cited for underage drinking, troopers added.

State police at Fern Ridge are investigating a burglary that occurred at a Monroe County residence in which copper piping was stolen.

Troopers said the incident occurred at a residence along Bartonsville Woods Road off Twin Lakes Road, in Jackson Township. Entry was gained by breaking a sliding glass door. Once inside the criminals removed copper pipes from the home. The suspects may have fled in a small green in color Chevrolet S10 or GMC Jimmy, troopers added. The vehicle had a bed cap on it, green in color. The home is owned by James Knerr, 63, of Stroudsburg.

A vehicle stop in Carbon County led to drug charges being filed.

State police at Lehighton said a 2001 Ford Explorer was stopped about 6:53 p.m. for an equipment violation. The stop was made along SR248 at SR895 in Bowmanstown.

Troopers said the driver was identified as Enrique Ulissess Ortiz Jr., of the 200 block of W. Ridge St., Lansford. Troopers detected criminal activity and requested and was granted a search of the vehicle by Ortiz.

A Monroe County driver is facing charges following an incident that occurred about 10:14 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 13, along Dorshimer Road at Burger Hollow Road, in Polk Township.

State police at Fern Ridge said Nathanial David Madigan, 24, of Kunkletown, was stopped after he failed to stop for a stop sign and attempted to flee west on Dorshimer Road.

He was placed uder arrest at the intersection of Dorshimer and Lower Middle Creek roads. He was charged with fleeing and eluding and later released. His vehicle was towed from the scene, troopers added.

Rush Township Police are investigating two theft incidents reported to the department in the last few days.

One incident involves a purse taken from a vehicle parked on Crescent Drive in Lake Hauto. The other case is the theft of copper pipes from a home at 474 Fairview St.

State police at Lehighton are investigating an access device fraud case.

Troopers said Glenda Meldrum, 59, of 30 Porter Drive, Jim Thorpe, Penn Forest Township, reported his Discover card was used without her permission. Troopers allege that Robert Creed, 57, of Jim Thorpe, used the card to make $1,223.91 worth of purchases for goods and services.

The investigation into the case is continuing, troopers said.

State police at the Fogelsville barracks reported today two persons were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol after separate incidents in Lower Macungie Township.

The first one happened at 2 a.m. Dec. 31.

Police said Alicia Lynn Moyer, 21, of Emmaus, was stopped for a traffic stop after which time police said they determined she had been drinking alcohol.
