Kayla Crostly, 21, of Nesquehoning, is facing charges following a retail theft incident at the Hometown Commons Wal Mart.

The incident took place at 6:35 p.m. on April 6 when Crostly allegedly attempted to remove merchandise valued at $54.18 from the store.

Injuries were averted in a two-vehicle accident at 1 p.m. April 7 near the intersection of Seven Stars Road and Route 61 in North Manheim Township, according to state police at the Schuylkill Haven barracks,

Police said Steven Skoloda II, 21, of Hamburg, was driving a 2004 Chevrolet Silverado southbound on Seven Stars Road when he failed to make the turn properly. Police said his vehicle swung too wide into the path of a 2007 Jeep Cherokee driven by Harry J. Zaprazny, 42, of New Ringgold, who was coming off Rt. 61 northbound and beginning to make a left turn onto Seven Stars Road.

Mark Gurry, 49, of Kunkletown, has been arrested by state police at the Lehighton barracks on charges of driving under the influence of alcohol.

Police said he was stopped on April 6 at 8:09 p.m. at the intersection of Fairgrounds and Gilbert roads in Polk Township after he was observed driving a 1997 Dodge van that proceeded through the intersection without stopping for a stop sign.

Denise Smolar of Tamaqua suffered moderate injuries in a two-vehicle crash at 5 a.m. April 5 at the intersection of Route 209 and Water Street in New Philadelphia, according to state police at the Frackville barracks.

Police said she was driving a 2011 Kia Sportage westbound on Route 209 when a 2002 Ford Ranger, driven by Troy Fisher of Pottsville, attempted to turn left onto Water Street without first yielding the right-of-way, causing the vehicles to collide.

Jim Thorpe police report the arrest of Mark E. Yanoski, 43, of 84 N. Shore Dr., Lake Harmony, on charges of driving under the influence of alcohol.

Police said the arrest stems from an incident at 12:05 a.m. Feb. 18, when they were dispatched to a report of a driver driving erratically on Route 903.

State police at Fogelsville are investigating a case of fraud. Police reported that Rodney Beck, 59, of New Tripoli had fraudulent activity and charges on his bank debit card. The fraudulent charges totaled several hundred dollars.

Nicole M. Shoop, 27, of Ashland, has been committed to the Carbon County Correctional Facility, Nesquehoning, on various charges stemming from an incident on April 4 at 4:30 p.m. in East Penn Township.

A 14-year-old boy is facing misdemeanor charges filed against him by Jim Thorpe police for having stolen a cell phone belonging to another student at the Jim Thorpe Area High School.

Police said a petition has been filed in the Carbon County Juvenile Probation office against the boy, charging him with theft by unlawful taking or disposition and receiving stolen property.

Police said the incident happened on Jan. 31. The boy was interviewed in the presence of his father and admitted to stealing the cell phone from another student while in gym class.

William E. Daniels of 66 Broadway, Jim Thorpe, has been arrested by borough police on charges of public drunkenness stemming from two incidents that happened in February and March in the borough.

Police said they were called to the area near Daniels' home at 2:30 a.m. Feb. 15 and observed him lying on the sidewalk. He was transported to the Gnaden Huetten Memorial Hospital, Lehighton, by EMS for an evaluation.

State police at Lehighton reported on two crashes investigated by troopers.

On March 31 about 5:44 a.m. troopers said a two-vehicle crash occurred along SR903, east of Maury Road, in Penn Forest Township, Carbon County. Troopers said Desirae A. Kline, 22, of Nesquehoning, was operating a 2009 Kia Borrego eastbound when she said she observed a deer run onto the roadway. She said she applied her brakes to avoid the animal and her car was struck from behind by a 2001 Ford Explorer driven by Nicholas R. Davis, 20, of Jim Thorpe.
