Two drivers are facing driving under the influence (DUI) charges following an incident in Monroe County.

State police at Fern Ridge said they found a 2004 Chevrolet Cavalier in a ditch along SR115, near Long Pond Road, about 4:13 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 3. The driver was identified as Lisa M. Gerber, 21, of Jim Thorpe. Troopers said she was found to be under the influence and will be charged with DUI.

A Schuylkill County driver was charged following an incident that occurred about 8:28 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 5, along SR61 at the jughandle turnaround between Mount Carbon and the Cressona Mall, North Manheim Township.

Troopers said Vanessa A. Bercher, 30, of Auburn, was driving a 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt southbound and approaching the jughandle when she traveled off the right side of the road and her vehicle struck a traffic sign.

Upon impact Bercher continued south on 61 until the car became disabled. She was not injured.

State police at Fern Ridge are investigating a theft incident.

David R. Hatfield, 20, of 3139A Wellington Rd., Jackson Township, Monroe County, reported someone forced open the door to his home and removed a Sony Playstation and controller. The incident occurred between Sept. 3-5. The item is valued at $550.

State police conducted operation CRASH (Commonwealth Rural Roads and State Highways), enforcement on Aug. 24 throughout the state.

A total of 181 trucks were taken out of service in the effort and 30 commercial drivers were taken off the road.

Troopers inspected 1,112 commercial vehicles resulting in 687 traffic citations during the one day enforcement.

In addition, there were 1,477 written warnings for vehicle and driver violations.

The Lehigh Township Regional DUI Enforcement program released the following information concerning recent events.

On Aug. 12 a DUI checkpoint was conducted in Hanover Township on Schoenersville Road at Macada Drive. A total of 1,078 vehicles were contacted and informational materials were handed out. A total of 12 people were DUI tested with three arrested for DUI of alcohol and three for DUI of a controlled substance. Also, there were 12 traffic citations issued, one non-traffic citation for underage drinking and three warnings handed out.

A Schuylkill County driver is facing a charge of driving under the influence (DUI) following an incident that occurred about 8:53 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 3.

State police at Schuylkill Haven said James Thomas, 27, of St. Clair, was stopped in the area of SR183 and SR443, in Wayne Township, for traffic violations.

He was found to be under the influence and taken to the Schuylkill Medical Center-S. Jackson St., Pottsville, for a blood test.

The DUI charge is pending the test results, troopers said.

State police at Schuylkill Haven are investigating the theft of an all terrain vehicle (ATV).

Troopers said a Polaris Sportsman 400, yellow in color, was stolen from the property of William Lombel, 201 Coal Lane, Mar Lin, Norwegian Township, sometime between Monday, Sept. 5, at 9 p.m. and 8 a.m. on Tuesday.

Anyone with information concerning this incident is asked to call troopers at (570)-593-2000.

State police at the Schuylkill Haven barracks released their statistical report of activities for the month of August.

In the criminal division there were 257 offenses reported with 257 found, 141 were cleared and 95 arrests made. In the traffic division there were 37 crashes investigated, with eight hit-and-runs, 20 injured, no fatalities, five drunk driving arrests, one DUI-related crash, 133 citations issued and 49 written warnings handed out.

There was 633 incidents for the month.

Shakietha McCullough, 33, of 915 Greenbrook Terrace, Tobyhanna, faces charges from an incident which took place on June 29. McCullough is charged with issuing a bad check to Ron's Auto Sales, Lansford. Charges were filed by Officer Christopher Matthew Ondrus and a warrant was issued for her arrest.
