A traffic stop in McAdoo on Jan. 7 resulted in driving under the influence (DUI) charges being filed against a Hazleton man.

Patrolman James Patterson stopped a vehicle at 3:10 a.m. after the driver failed to stop for a red traffic signal. The officer identified the driver as Paul Daniel Swinesburg Jr., 28, of 948 N. James St., McAdoo, and noted signs of intoxication. A test determined that Swinesburg's blood alcohol content was .12 percent, more than the .08 state mandated limit.

Charges included DUI of alcohol as well as failure to obey a red light.

State police at Fern Ridge are investigating a hit and run accident that occurred in Carbon County.

Troopers said the incident occurred in the parking lot of the Hickory Run Travel Plaza, located along SR534 in East Side Boro. The passenger side front bumper on a parked 2007 Peterbilt tractor was struck sometime between Jan. 27 and 29.

A Tamaqua woman was committed to the Schuylkill County prison, Pottsville, on Wednesday after Rush Township police discovered drugs during a traffic stop.

Diane S. Sylvetser, 48, was stopped on Claremont Avenue, at 8:44 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 25. Found inside her vehicle were 10 bags of heroin, a syringe and a spoon. She was transported to St. Luke's Miners Memorial Hospital, Coaldale, for blood tests, then arraigned before District Judge Stephen Bayer, Tamaqua, on charges of possession of heroin and possession of drug paraphernalia. Bail was set at $10,000.

Rush Township police are investigating a burglary at the White Birch Golf Course, reported to the department on Feb. 1.

Unknown criminals forcibly entered the club house and removed an undisclosed number of lottery tickets.

Tamaqua police are investigating an act of vandalism at the East End Playground. The incident was reported at 2:35 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 28, when a volunteer discovered slight damage to a wooden ship.

A Gouldsboro, Wayne County, man was lodged in the Schuylkill County prison on Jan. 20 following his extradition from Florida.

He is wanted on a warrant filed for charges of involuntary deviate sexual intercourse with a child.

Clark Emmanuel Mead Jr., 28, allegedly sexually assaulted two young boys on various dates between August 2005 and June 2006. Mead was living with a woman in McAdoo at the time of the alleged incidents.

Tamaqua police have requested a felony arrest warrant for Kelly Gabrielle Bredamus, 43, of 424 E. Broad St., Tamaqua.

Bredamus allegedly committed retail theft at the Rite Aid Drug Store, Center Street, on Jan. 29.

According to the affidavit of probable cause, Bredamus entered the store at 2:30 p.m. to pick up a prescription, then became loud and obnoxious, drawing the attention of store personnel. As she walked around the store she kept dropping the bag containing her prescription. As she approached the counter at the store front a tube of KY Jelly was visible to employees

McAdoo police have arrested several suspects on drug related charges.

Craig Montgomery, 35, of Wyoming St., Hazleton, has been charged with one count each of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance (CS), illegal use of a communication's device, possession, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Steven Lutz, 47, of W. Blaine St., McAdoo, was charged with two counts of possession with intent to deliver and two counts of possession of a CS.

State police at Fern Ridge are investigating a theft from vehicle incident in Carbon County.

Troopers said the unlocked 2004 Nissan Frontier of Kerry M. Knapp, 133 Mansi Drive, Indian Mountain Lakes, Albrightsville, Penn Forest Township, was entered sometime between 7 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 29, and 6:15 a.m. on Monday while parked at the residence.

Removed was a purse and two pocket knives. Total estimated loss was $50.

A New York resident has been charged with retail theft for an incident at a Monroe County business.

State police at Fern Ridge said about 1 p.m. on Jan. 28 troopers were called to Kinsley's Shop Rite, in Chestnuthill Township, for a reported theft.

Troopers said Michael Anthony Shanks, 43, of Brooklyn, allegedly attempted to remove $139.22 with of merchandise from the store without paying for it.
