A Tamaqua driver is facing a charge of driving under the influence (DUI) of a controlled substance following a one-vehicle crash. State police at Frackville said the accident occurred about 5:53 p.m. Friday, July 13, along SR209 in Walker Township, just south of the Tamaqua borough line.

Troopers said Kim K. Leary, 46, was driving a 1998 Dodge Caravan southbound when she traveled to the right off the road with the passenger side striking the guiderails. The van then veered to the left, crossed both lanes of travel, and overturned and came to rest off the road on its roof.

Two Schuylkill County men were jailed on Saturday, July 14, in two separate assault incidents stemming from domestic disputes. State police at Schuylkill Haven reported on the incidents.

Troopers said about 5:30 p.m. Elizabeth Steine 51, and her husband, Edward Stine, 49, of 81 Spring St., Pottsville, Branch Township, became involved in a domestic altercation in the front yard area of their residence. Edward Stine shot a shotgun into the air in the presence of his wife and a friend, and made threats toward her and the friend.

A Schuylkill County driver is facing a charge of driving under the influence (DUI) following an incident that occurred about 6:20 to 6:25 p.m. on Friday, July 13, along SR61, south of Manheim Road, in North Manheim Township.

State police at Schuylkill Haven said Stephan W. Goodman, 30, of Schuylkill Haven, was stopped operating a Jeep Wrangler for multiple motor vehicle code violations.

Goodman was found to be under the influence and failed field sobriety tests. Goodman was taken to the Schuylkill Medical Center-S. Jackson St., Pottsville, for a blood test.

A Schuylkill County teen was nabbed in the act of entering a home illegally. State police at Schuylkill Haven said the incident occurred about 11:44 a.m. on Sunday, July 15, at the residence of Melissa Shappell, 36, of 2 Pike St., Port Carbon.

Troopers said Shappell and her boyfriend, not named, arrived at the home and entered. She heard a noise from the upstairs while her boyfriend walked to the rear porch area. He observed a male teen on the back porch attempting to flee the scene. The boyfriend caught the boy and detained him until troopers arrived.

Rush Township Police are asking for the public's help in identifying the culprits responsible for a rash of thefts from vending machines. The machines are located at the Hometown Commons Wal-mart.

Several incidents were reported by the Mahoning Township Police Department.

They are:

Ÿ James and Shannon Rehrig of Lehighton have been charged with cruelty to animals as a result of an incident on July 3.

Police said that at 2:40 p.m. on that date, a 911 caller reported a dog locked inside of a vehicle with the windows up in the Carbon Plaza Mall parking lot.

The driver returned to the vehicle, and left before police arrived. At the time of the report the temperature was 90 degrees.

Several citations have been issued by the Lehighton Police Department.

Charged were:

Ÿ Richard E. Hartranft, 47, of Lehighton, cited twice for public drunkenness on Thursday, June 28. The first incident occurred in the vicinity of 223 N. First St. at 7:40 p.m. The second was at the trestle at 11:30 p.m.

Ÿ Anthony Dick, 29, of Bridge Street, Lehighton, was cited for passing a bad check in the amount of $191.95, written to Mallard Markets, Lehighton, on Saturday, May 5.

Jeffrey Schnettel of Tobyhanna, who was wanted by authorities in Northampton and Lehigh counties, was arrested by Pocono Mountain Regional Police at 1:20 a.m. July 11.

Police said the man was seen at his residence by security personnel at A Pocono Country Place, where he resides. Police arrived and arrested him in the garage on his property.

He was wanted on a warrant for theft and two other warrants, one in each of the above counties.

State police at Fogelsville are investigating a burglary at a Lehigh County home.

Troopers said the residence of James Thomas Landsfeld, 4719 Aziza Road, New Tripoli, Lowhill Township, and removed multiple items. The entry occurred sometime between 11:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. on June 25.

Coaldale police have charged a Northampton County man with theft by unlawful taking and receiving stolen property after taking $3,048 from a borough woman for roof repairs that were never done.

James Michael Deiter, 30, of 897 N. Summit Rd., Bath, allegedly took the money and ran, according to an affidavit of probable cause filed by Police Chief Tim Delaney.
