A Monroe County driver is facing a charge of driving under the influence (DUI) following an incident that occurred about 12:04 a.m. on Saturday, July 9, along Kings Way, in Coolbaugh Township.

Pocono Mountain Regional police officers stopped a vehicle at the above location and time for a vehicle code violation. The driver was identified as Randolph McCoy Jr., 34, of Tobyhanna,

Officers detected the odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from McCoy. He failed field sobriety tests and was transported to the Pocono Medical Center, East Stroudsburg, for a blood test.

A New Jersey driver was transported to a Lehigh Valley area hospital following a one vehicle crash in Carbon County. State police at Fern Ridge said the crash occurred about 12:01 p.m. on Monday, July 11, along SR534 in Penn Forest Township.

Troopers said Nancy L. Pagano, 66, of Egg Harbor, was driving a 2003 Honda CRV westbound and negotiating a curve when it went off the road on the north side, came back a across the road and rolled onto its side. It then slid for a couple of feet to a final rest on its side.

A Monroe County woman is facing charges after she fled an accident scene in which her vehicle struck a soldiers' monoument in front of a VFW post home. Pocono Mountain Regional police said the crash occurred about 7:15 p.m. on Sunday, July 3, along SR196 at the entrance to the VFW in Tobyhanna.

Police responded to the scene and determined that a vehicle drove over the lawn and ran over a steel monument in memory of soldiers killed in combat. The car continued across the lawn and struck a tree.

Two Monroe County residents were cited for public drunkenness in separate incidents.

Pocono Mountain Regional police said about 2:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 9, officers were dispatched to SR940 near the Wawa in Mt. Pocono for a male yelling and screaming. Upon arrival officers observed a male in the roadway with his shirt on upside down and half off.

The male was identified as Craig S. Defontes, 52, of Blakeslee. Defontes was visibly intoxicated and was placed under arrest. He was placed in the county prison in Snydersville for the night, police added.

A Tamaqua man was lodged in the Schuylkill County Prison, Pottsville, Sunday night after police were alerted to suspicious persons in the vicinity of the Kane Lumber Company, Cottage Avenue.

Once on scene an officer noticed the light from a flashlight coming from a wooded area to the south of the property, then drove to the access road behind Kane's. Three individuals walking towards him were stopped and questioned.

A Rush Township woman was remanded to the Schuylkill County prison in Pottsville last Thursday after a confrontation with Rush Township police.

Officers were dispatched to 180 Claremont Ave. at 1:51 a.m. where they dealt with Rose Fredericks, 38. Fredericks resisted arrest and was eventually tasered into compliance.

She was arraigned before Duty District Judge Carol Pankake, Tremont, on charges of resisting arrest, simple assault and harassment. Unable to post the $10,000 bail, she was incarcerated in the county prison.

A Mahanoy City man is facing drunk driving related charges filed by Rush Township police.

Gregory A. Sperlbaum, 44, was stopped on Pine Creek Drive, at 11:55 p.m., on July 8. Officers detected signs of intoxication and transported Sperlbaum to the station for a portable breath test.

The results indicated a .169 blood alcohol content, more than twice the legal limit.

State police at Fern Ridge reported investigating a burglary, theft and acts of criminal mischief.

The break-in occurred at a residence along Terrace Drive, in Chestnuthilll Township, Monroe County. The home was entered sometime between July 5-10. Removed was computers, televisions, musical keyboard and a Play Station 3. The homeowner was not identified by troopers.

The Wilkes-Barre enforcement office of the state liquor control board has cited a Carbon County business for a liquor code violation.

West End Saloon Inc., 1121 Mauch Chunk Rd., in Palmerton, was cited for failure to return its hotel liquor license and wholesale liquor purchase permit cards to the board after its license establishment had not been in operation for a period of 15 consecutive days between Jan. 4 and April 10.

A Monroe County man was was cited for harassment following an incident that occurred about 10:40 a.m. on Tuesday, July 11.

State police at Fern Ridge said Franklin Decator Ryder, 70, of Effort, was cited for an incident that was reported along Donald Road in Chestnuthill Township. Troopers said a 55-year-old female alleged that Ryder punched her in the arm.
