A Lehigh County driver was cited following a one vehicle crash that occurred about 2:49 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 12, along Independent Road, in Weisenberg Township.

State police at Fogelsville said Francis G. Fliszar, 48, of New Tripoli, was driving a 2012 Chevrolet Silverado truck when he fell asleep behind the wheel. The truck left the road and struck a boulder.

Fliszar was not injured but the truck sustained major front end damage, troopers said. He was cited for driving on roadways not laned for traffic.

State police at Frackville are investigating the theft of copper and other items from an electric company site in Schuylkill County.

The theft occurred sometime between Aug. 23 and Thursday, Sept. 13, at the Girard Manor tap air break location in Mahanoy Township, which is owned by PPL Electric Utilities Corp., of Frackville.

Criminals removed 83-feet of copper, multiple lug connectors, and multiple steel grounding grates (three by five-feet), from four tap sites. The estimated value of the missing items was set at $1,228.

Two Jim Thorpe juveniles have been charged in connection with a burglary at a borough business.

Borough police said on Thursday, Sept. 6, about 2:18 a.m. they responded to Bob's Market, located at 15 W. Sixth St,. for a burglar alarm. On scene police discovered forced entry was made to the building through a side window.

A deer and a car collided in Schuylkill County.

State police at Schuylkill Haven said Edward G. Fessler, 48, of Pottsville, was driving a 2008 Chevorlet Malibu southbound on SR61 about 3:10 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 14, when a deer entered the road in front of him.

Fessler applied his brakes but the front of the car struck the deer.

Fessler was not injured but his vehicle had to be towed from the scene.

A Carbon County woman was cited for harassment following an incident that occurred about 7:45 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 10, at 401 Bridge St., Weissport.

State police at Lehighton said Barbara Jane Lambert, 28, was cited following an altercation she had with Bobby Phillip Smith, 28, both of that address.

State police at Frackville are investigating the theft of copper ground wire from a Schuylkill County site.

Troopers said unknown criminals entered the Crown Castle cell tower site located at 861 Mountain Road, in Blythe Township, and removed two rolls of the wire, which was located in a fenced in area. They also cut about 150-feet of ground wire from the cell tower. The incident occurred sometime between Tuesday, Sept. 11, at 4:50 p.m. and 7:30 a.m. on Wednesday.

State police at Lehighton reported on several driving under the influence (DUI) arrests made by troopers recently.

On Sunday, Sept. 9, about 2:15 a.m. troopers stopped Ward Crozier, 44, of Lehighton, along SR209 at Packerton Dam Drive, in Mahoning Township, Carbon County. He was taken for a blood test. The DUI charge is pending the test results, troopers said.

Jim Thorpe borough police today released a report on an incident at the L.B. Morris Elementary School, located at 101 W. 10th St., that occurred on May 25 in which a student was found in possession of marijuana.

Police were called to the school on that date and told by school personnel that a 12-year-old male had marijuana on him. The juvenile was interviewed in the presence of his mother and stepfather. The juvenile at first stated that another student told him to take possession of the marijuana and threatened him if he refused.

State police at Lehighton are investigating a criminal mischief incident in which a school bus was vandalized.

Troopers said a bus belonging to the Carbon-Lehigh Intermediate Unit was sprayed with black paint while parked at 238 Franklin St., in Weissport. The incident occurred sometime overnight of Sept. 9-10.

Pocono Mountain Regional police reported the arrest of a Wayne County man on theft charges.

Police said David Eldred, 28, of Newfoundland, was arrested on Tuesday, Sept. 11, with the assistance of state police at the Blooming Grove barracks in Pike County.

He has been charged with theft by deception, theft by unlawful taking, theft by failure to make required dispositon, deceptive business practices, and receiving stolen property.
