Tamaqua Police are investigating an act of criminal mischief that took place at the South Ward Playground on Friday.

Officers were dispatched to the playground, at 299 Penn St., at 3:51 p.m. and met with Lee Calkins of the playground association. According to the report, a man identified as Michael Wimer, 25, had used a pocket knife to damage one of the benches at the park. Wimer had told Calkins he lived at 215 E. Elm St., Tamaqua, but when the officer checked, neighbors said the residents of that address had been evicted.

State police at the Schuylkill Haven barracks arrested a Schuylkill Haven woman for retail theft after she took a can of hairspray off the shelf at the Redner's Supermarket, Schuylkill Haven, used it and then put it back on the display.

Police said Tina Marie Fitzpatrick, 37, made use of the Fructis Hairspray from the shelf, which will net her a citation through District Court 21-3-03.

A Bethlehem man has been arrested by state police at the Lehighton barracks after he was caught with $24,900 worth of copper that was stolen from a Carbon County site.

Robert Thomas Fisher, 47, was charged with theft by unlawful taking after the incident at 4:07 p.m. Aug. 26, in Lower Towamensing Township.

On Aug. 3, 9:30 a.m. Denardo McEachron, Blakeslee, cited for speeding, Lake Drive, 52 miles-per-hour, in a 35 zone; 10 a.m. Justin Stuyck, Kresgeville, cited for speeding, same area, 49 in a 35 zone; 10:15 a.m. Casandra Brown, Tobyhanna, speeding, same area, 45 in 35 zone; 11 a.m. William Bartosh, Jim Thorpe, speeding, same area, 53 in 35 zone; 11:30 a.m., Antonia Posa, Albrightsville, speeding, same area, 51 in 35 zone.

State police at Frackville is investigating a burglary at a Schuylkill County home.

Troopers said Misty Lambert, 31, of 369 Phineyville Rd., in Ringtown, East Union Township, reported items were removed from her home sometime during the period of July 8 to Aug. 8. Taken were a Vizio blue-ray disk player, Wii gaming system, Xbox gaming system (old style with 20 games), a Sony 27-inch flatscreen television, and a Pioneer audio receiver.

Louis F. Genther Jr., 72, of Schwenksville, escaped injuries in a one-vehicle crash Aug. 27 at 1:20 p.m. on Route 61 in West Brunswick Township, Schuylkill County, according to state police at the Schuylkill Haven barracks.

Pocono Mountain Regional Police arrested a Waymart woman for possession of drug paraphernalia after police made a traffic stop on Aug. 26 at 7:48 a.m. at the intersection of Route 940 and Spur Road in Pocono Lake, Tobyhanna Township.

Police said they stopped Jillian M. Bombrowski, 28, after observing a car she was driving weaving along Rt. 940. Police later smelled the odor of burned marijuana, after which time Dombrowski turned over to them a multi-colored glass pipe containing marijuana residue. Police said the woman retrieved the pipe from inside her pants.

On Aug. 15 about 1:46 a.m. borough police responded to the area of the covered bridge on N. Seventh St., to a report of suspicious activity.

The North Central Regional DUI Program have announced Sobriety Checkpoints and Roving Patrols will be conducted between Aug. 31 thru Sept. 9 on Routes 209, 443, 902, and 903 in Carbon County.

Travelers are reminded to report drunk drivers by dialing 911.

To report underage drinking call 1-888-UNDER-21.

Sobriety Checkpoints are funded through the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

Seth W. Valentine, 32, of 323 Washington St., Tamaqua, was injured in a motorcycle accident Aug. 25 at 8:30 p.m. on Route 248 eastbound in Bowmanstown Borough.

State police at the Lehighton barracks said he was transported by helicopter to the Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township.

The accident happened in the area before Route 895. Police did not report any details of the accident, except to say Valentine was operating a 2003 black Suzuki GSX motorcycle.
