A Monroe County driver is facing a driving under the influence (DUI) charge following an incident early today.

State police at Lehighton said Robert Paul Smith III, 18, of Kunkletown, was observed driving a 1985 Dodge truck erratically about 12:46 a.m. along Kunkletown Road, at the Kunkletown General Store, in Eldred Township. He was found to be under the influence and taken to the Palmerton Hospital where he submitted to a blood test.

Troopers said the DUI charge is pending the test results.

State police at the Schuylkill Haven barracks released their statistical report of activities for the month of January.

In the criminal division there were 127 offenses reported, 120 founded, 83 cleared and 70 arrests made. In the traffic division there were 70 crashes investigated, one fatality, eight hit and runs, 14 injured, eight drunken driving arrests, five DUI-related crashes, 186 citations issued and 204 warnings issued.

There were 550 incidents for the month.

A Tamaqua area man faces multiple charges of harassment after allegedly making repeated phone calls to a Tamaqua businessman.

Larry Wittig, of Tamaqua Transfer and Recycling, contacted police in early January after reportedly receiving numerous phone calls from Anthony F. Chesla, 25, of 135 W. Sherman St., despite a warning from police. Chesla told officers he was attempting to retrieve a check book linked to a joint account he had with Wittig.

A Summit Hill man recently entered a guilty plea to driving under the influence (DUI) in Carbon County court.

Jon Joseph Lynn, 30, of 404 W. Ludlow St., was arrested on Oct. 17, 2009, by state police at Lehighton along SR248 at the Bowmanstown exit ramp. Given a test, the result was .12 BAC.

Senior Judge Richard W. Webb accepted the plea but deferred sentencing. Lynn is currently an inmate in the Schuylkill County prison, Pottsville, on other charges.

An assault at a Monroe County bar has led to the arrest of two persons

Pocono Mountain Regional police responded to Burkes Tavern, located along SR611 in Mt. Pocono, about 1:07 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 8, to a report of a fight at the front door of the establishment.

Pocono Mountain Regional police reported on several driving under the influence (DUI) arrests made by officers in recent days.

On Feb. 4 about 6:57 p.m. a traffic stop was made along SR196 at the MiniMart service station for a motor vehicle code violation. The driver, Shane Micciche, of Tobyhanna, was found to be under the influence of a controlled substance. He failed field sobriety tests and was transported to the Pocono Medical Center (PMC), East Stroudsburg, where he submitted to a blood test. The DUI charge is pending the test results.

A woman was arrested on a felony retail theft warrant by Nesquehoning police.

Officers Timothy Wuttke and Ronald Peck arrested Andrette Haupt, 11 N. Walnut St., on Tuesday, Feb. 9, for an incident that had occurred at Redner's Warehouse Market. She was arraigned before District Judge Casimir Kosciolek, of Lansford, and committed to the county prison after failing to post $1,000 straight cash bail.

A Carbon County man was jailed on Tuesday, Feb. 8, after pointing a pellet gun at state troopers and firing shots at security personnel.

A large amount of firearms were reported stolen during a Schuylkill County burglary.

State police at Frackville said the home of Richard Fryer, 85 Macomb St., New Philadelphia, was entered and removed were about 21 firearms, U.S. currency and other items. The incident occurred sometime between Jan. 21-24.
