Jim Thorpe police are alerting residents of suspicious activity that has recently taken place in the Leisureland area of the borough.

Police said there have been reports of individuals calling residents and asking specific questions in regard to vehicles that may or may not be owned by the homeowners. It is believed that these individuals may be attempting to ascertain times when residents are home or away.

A vehicle stop along Interstate 80 in Tobyhanna Township, Monroe County, has led to drug charges against the driver.

State police at Fern Ridge said a 17-year-old juvenile from East Stroudsburg, was stopped on Wednesday, July 4, about 6:30 p.m. while westbound. At the stop troopers detected the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. A search of the vehicle resulted in marijuana, packaged for sale, found inside.

State police at Schuylkill Haven are investigating a theft from vehicle incident.

Troopers said Lori Ann Harner, of Tower City, reported she parked her car in a lot at the American Legion post home in Tower City about 10 p.m. on June 30. Upon returning about 10:30 p.m. she found that the car had been entered and removed was a gym bag, wallet, cash, a MP3 player, and a digital camera. Troopers noted the car was not locked.

Rush Township police have cited two people in connection with a number of television thefts at the Hometown Commons Walmart.

Jodi Lynn Gaffney, 26, and Stevin L. Gaffney, 28, both of Lansford, were charged with retail theft, receiving stolen property, and criminal conspiracy.

A third defendant in one case was identified as Justin Jacobacci, 30, of Jim Thorpe. He faces similar charges as the Gaffneys.

Three individuals have been charged with retail theft in separate incidents by Mahoning Township police.

Ÿ Carol Rex of Lansford has been charged with retail theft. Police say that on June 15, while working as a cashier at the Lehighton Walmart store, she under-rang items during four separate transactions defrauding the store of $148.61.

Ÿ A female juvenile from Lehighton has been charged with retail theft. On July 2, she allegedly concealed makeup valued at $24 inside of her purse and left the store without purchasing the items.

A Schuylkill County driver is facing a charge of driving under the influence (DUI) following a two-vehicle crash in which he fled the scene but was later caught. State police at Schuylkill Haven said the crash occurred about 11:27 a.m. on Tuesday, July 3, along SR209, between Cumbola and Port Carbon, in East Norwegian Township.

Troopers said Marlin Hosier, 52, of New Philadelphia, was driving northbound and swerved into the southbound lane where his vehicle struck the left front driver's side of a vehicle operated by Joshua Trunk, 23, of Tamaqua.

A Fleetwood, Berks County, man escaped serious injury in Rush Township after his vehicle was forced off the road on June 29.

Kermit Boyer, 61, was driving his 1997 GMC east on Fairview Street at 2:57 a.m., when, he told officers, an oncoming vehicle entered his lane of travel.

Boyer swerved to avoid the vehicle but lost control and struck a PPL utility pole.

The SUV sustained considerable damage and had to be towed from the scene.

A Carbon County woman is the victim of a theft incident that occurred in Schuylkill County.

State police at Frackville said Catherine Jean Green, 22, of Lansford, reported the theft of five diamond rings, a pair of earrings, and $30 in cash were removed from her backpack. The rings are value at about $120 each and the earrings at $40.

Troopers said the theft occurred at 2 Fourth St., Kline Township, sometime between 5 am. and 1 p.m. on Wednesday, July 4.

One of two drivers involved in a crash about 7:14 a.m. on Tuesday, July 3, sustained a minor injury.

State police at Schuylkill Haven said the accident occurred at the intersection of state routes 183 and 895 in Wayne Township, Schuylkill County, as Christian Kimmel 37, of Pottsville, was operating a 2002 Ford Explorer southbound while Nelson B. Zeiset, 50, of Newmanstown, Lebanon County, was northbound 183. Kimmel attempted make a left turn onto 895 when his vehicle was struck by Zeiset's.

A Schuylkill County man was jailed on Wednesday, July 4, for aggravated assault and other offenses. State police at Schuylkill Haven said the incident began as a domestic dispute at 372 Tremont Rd., in Pine Grove Township, about 6:45 p.m.

Troopers said at that location Scott R. Tobin, 43, and Laurey A. Schaeffer-Lewis, 34, got involved in a dispute during which Tobin allegedly grabbed the hair of Lewis and threw her to the ground. He then left the home.
