A Carbon County driver is facing a charge of driving under the influence following an incident in Luzerne County on July 3.

State police at Hazleton said William Gaetano Vanriper, 27, of Weatherly, was stopped for a traffic violation at 6:49 p.m. along Route 93 in Hazle Township.

Vanriper was found to be driving under the influence of a controlled substance and was found to have in his possession controlled substances.

He was charged with DUI and drug counts.

A New Ringgold man was cited by Tamaqua police on July 19.

Officers were called to the Lafayette and Washington Street area for a male who was on the ground at the rear of Trinity Church.

The caller noted there was a hypodermic needle sticking in the fallen man's arm.

On scene officers found Nethanial Shea, 33, of 349 Blue Mountain Drive, leaning against one of the church walls. Shea said he was just resting due to the heat.

Tamaqua police cited Eric Allen McCabe, 20, of 414 W. Broad St., Tamaqua, after a disturbance on July 20.

Officers were dispatched to a fight in progress in the 400 block of West Broad Street at 12:15 a.m.

They found the complainant still at the scene along with McCabe and a woman.

As the officers spoke with the complainant and the woman, McCabe became agitated and uncooperative.

When he refused to calm down he was handcuffed and placed in the back of a police cruiser.

Palmerton police have charged the following people:

Katelynn Solt, 22, of Lehighton: Retail theft at 7:19 p.m. July 10 in the 500 block of Delaware Avenue.

Maria McKittrick, 50, and Gregory Seip, 44, both of Palmerton: Receiving stolen property on July 20 in the 900 block of Mauch Chunk Road.

Kody Yandrisovitz, 20, of Bethlehem: Possession of a small amount of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia at 10:54 p.m. July 4 in the 600 block of Alley E.

A Tamaqua woman has been cited for sending harassing and threatening messages to another woman.

The victim contacted Tamaqua police on July 10 to report receiving threatening text messages from Kelly Andrews, 37, of 241 Brown St.

In the texts Andrews threatened to damage the victim's vehicle.

Five texts were sent in a 15-minute time span. The victim noted this was not the first time Andrews had threatened and harassed her.

When contacted by police, Andrews admitted sending texts to the victim "because she stole my husband."

Palmerton police have charged a Lansford woman and man after an incident on June 17.

Sara Herb, 29, was charged with criminal conspiracy. Adam Spino, 30, was charged with theft and receiving stolen property.

According to a criminal complaint filed by patrolman John Orsulak, here's what happened:

Orsulak was asked to go to Palmerton Hospital concerning a stolen cellphone. He watched emergency room security camera footage taken from 10:30 p.m. July 16 to 12:15 a.m. July 17.

Palmerton police charged a borough man after he scuffled with an officer trying to put him into a cruiser.

Shannon E. Lacy, 42, faces charges of resisting arrest, simple assault, terroristic threats, persistent disorderly conduct, disorderly conduct and harassment.

The charges stem from an incident on July 18.

A 75-year-old man was found dead in the water of the Pocono Summit Lakes development in Coolbaugh Township on Monday morning.

Pocono Mountain Regional police were called to the scene just before 8:30 a.m. for a capsized kayak.

Family members said the man went kayaking around 7:45 a.m. and that they called for help after realizing the kayak had capsized.

The Scott Township Dive Rescue Specialist team assisted with recovery efforts.

Police are working with the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission in investigating the death.

A Palmerton man with no known address faces theft and related charges.

John Vacaro, 35, was charged after an incident at 6:43 p.m. July 17.

According to a criminal complaint filed by patrolman Trevor Flexer, here's what happened:

Flexer was called to 404 Fourth St. on a report of a theft that had happened the previous day. Shaun Capwell told the officer his mother had let Vacaro stay at the house as of July 1. On July 16, Capwell told Flexer, Vacaro came to the house high, and his mother told Vacaro he had to leave.

Three people were injured in a crash Saturday in Mahoning Township. Thomas Markle, of Berwick, was westbound in his Chrysler 300M when the vehicle struck a Jeep Wrangler that was stopped in traffic just after 9 a.m. The Jeep hit a stopped Ford Econoline waiting to make a left turn. Three people with injuries were transported to Lehighton Hospital. Markle was cited for careless driving and driving a vehicle at an unsafe speed.
