Richard Crowley

Richard Crowley, grandson of Helen and Frank Homcha of Nesquehoning, completed his master's degree at Duke University's Nicholas School of the Environment, majoring in Energy Management with a Certificate Degree in Geospatial Analysis. The son of Peter and Pat Crowley of Princeton, N.J., he earned a bachelor of science degree in Environmental Policy from Colby College and has extensive experience in the use of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) used in analyzing energy project dynamics, modeling and statistical analysis.

Christopher "CJ" Rohde, a 2007 graduate of Tamaqua Area High School, has been placed on the dean's list for the spring 2010 semester at Penn State University. CJ is the son of Ron and Lynn Rohde of Tuscarora. He is majoring in mechanical engineering and will graduate with honors in 2011.

CJ plans to pursue a career in alternative energy.

Brianna Edgar, a 2008 graduate of Lehighton Area High School, was named to the dean's list at Wilkes University for the spring 2010 semester and accepted into the national honor society for psychology. She is a psychology and neuroscience major in the pre-physical therapy program.

Brianna is active on campus on the school volleyball team, alumni/homecoming committee, and in many service clubs. She also was selected to serve as a resident assistant for the fall 2011 term.

William Bednarz Jr., son of William and Karen Bednarz, graduated from King's College with a bachelor of science degree in Accounting and Finance. Commencement exercises were held May 23. Bednarz had the opportunity to study abroad in the Summer of 2008, attending John Cabot University in Rome, Italy. He was also named to the dean's list for the Spring and Fall semesters of his junior and senior years.

Air National Guard Airman 1st Class Marianne Secara graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.

The airman completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills.

Airmen who complete basic training earn four credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force.

Secara earned distinction as an honor graduate.

Aaron Tucker, son of John and Lisa Tucker of Lansford, has been named to the dean's list for the Spring semester at Kutztown University. A 2008 graduate of Panther Valley High School, he is majoring in Elementary and Special Education. Tucker is the grandson of Ed and Mary Tucker of Lansford and the late Bill and Sara Doris of Tamaqua.

Vanessa E. Suzadail of Portland, Oregon, has been selected as the top eighth grade female student for the 27 annual Citizenship Award at Roseway Heights School. The award is sponsored by the Friendship Masonic Lodge 160, Ancient Free and Accepted Masons, with the selection process conducted by the school faculty. The daughter of former Tamaqua residents Scott Suzadail of Portland and Julie Kimmel Suzadail of Lompoke, Cal., she is the granddaughter of John and Carolyn Suzadail of Tamaqua and Sally Kimmel of Hazleton.

Rachel Rega, daughter of Shannon and Leona Rega of Tamaqua, has been accepted and plans to attend Lycoming College in the fall of 2010.

A graduate of Tamaqua Area High School, Rega was a six-year member of the Raider marching band, a three-year member of the drama club; a varisty cheerleader; member of the O'Ambassadors; treasurer of the German club; and a member of the German National Honor Society.

A student of the Pennsylvania Performing Arts Academy, she was a member of a dance team that performed at Carnegie Hall and the Kennedy Center.
