Kelsey Hunsicker of Lehighton was among students at The University of Scranton who were recently recognized for outstanding academic achievement at an awards ceremony held on campus.

Frank O'Hara Awards recognize graduate students with the highest grade point average at approximately the mid-point of their master's degree programs in each of the university's graduate programs for the 2013-2014 academic year.

The award is named in honor of the late Frank O'Hara who served the university for 53 years in various administrative positions.

Catrina Strubinger, a 2014 Lehighton Area High School graduate, was placed on the dean's list for the fall semester at Rider University, Lawrenceville, New Jersey, with a 4.0 GPA.

She is majoring in public relations with a minor in web design. At Rider she is a member of their Division 1 cheerleading squad, treasurer of the Public Relations Student Society of America, a member of the Alpha Lambda Delta National Honor Society and a member the Emerging Leaders in Event Planning Club.

Kyle Higgins was named to the dean's list at Lehigh University, Bethlehem, for the 2014 fall semester.

He is a freshman majoring in physics. He is a 2014 graduate of Lehighton Area High School.

Kyle is the son of Carol and Brian Higgins of Lehighton, and the grandson of Kenneth and Nancy Higgins of Lehighton and Anthony and Kathleen Chimarys of Northampton.

Army Guard Master Sgt. Lucille M. Gross has retired from the U.S. Army Guard after serving honorably for 33 years.

Gross was last serving as a human resources sergeant with the 213th Regional Support Group, Allentown.

She is the sister of Anna Deangelis of Schnecksville and Francis Gross of Allentown.

She is a 1979 graduate of Northwestern Lehigh High School, New Tripoli. She earned an associate degree in 2011 from Allied American University, Laguna Hills, California.

Emily H. Fannick was named to the dean's list for the fall 2014 semester at St. Joseph's University in Philadelphia.

She is a freshman majoring in clinical psychology.

A 2014 graduate of Marian Catholic, she is the daughter of Christine Fannick and David Fannick, both of Frackville.

Kayla Stanek, daughter of Frank and Michelle Stanek of Summit Hill, graduated summa cum laude from Kutztown University on Dec. 13 with a bachelor of science degree in elementary education, pre-kindergarten through fourth grade.

Her overall GPA was a 4.0.

While at Kutztown, Kayla was a member of the Association of Campus Events and the Kutztown University Dance Team.

Katie Kabana has been named to the dean's list for her fall semester at Indiana University of Pennsylvania.

She is a freshman, currently studying nutrition and plans to transfer to the nursing program in the fall.

Katie is a graduate of Panther Valley High School and is the daughter of Lisa Kabana of Lansford and John Kabana of Tamaqua.

She is the granddaughter of Arlene Potichko of Coaldale and John Anderson of Lansford, and Nancy Kabana of Tamaqua and the late Lawrence Kabana of Tamaqua.

North Greenville University in Tigerville, South Carolina, has recognized Sara Michelle Kocsis of New Tripoli for her academic accomplishments by naming her to the dean's list for the fall 2014 semester.

To qualify for the dean's list, students must maintain a 3.5 grade point average while taking a minimum of 12 hours.

Lauren Armbruster, of Lehighton, was named to the dean's list at Indiana University of Pennsylvania for fall 2014, attaining a 4.0 grade point average. She is majoring in criminology.

Lauren is a 2014 graduate of Lehighton Area High School and the daughter of Sherry (Wentz) Armbruster and Lonny Armbruster of Lehighton. She is the granddaughter of James and Shirley Wentz of Lehighton.

Anthony Farole, son of Danny and Nina Farole of Lehighton, received academic honors at Penn State by making the university's dean's list for the fall 2014 semester.

A junior at Penn State, University Park, Anthony is majoring in mechanical engineering. He is also involved in Formula SAE-Penn State's racing team, Lunar Lion, and THON, the world's largest student-run dance marathon that raises monies to help the fight against pediatric cancer.

Anthony is a 2012 graduate of Lehighton Area High School.
