Army Reserve Spec. James K. Faust has been mobilized and activated at Joint Base Dix-McGuire-Lakehurst, N.J., in preparation for deployment to serve in support of either Operation New Dawn in the Iraqi Theater of Operations or Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan and the Southwest Theater of Operations. The soldier is a member of the 301st Psychological Operations Company, in San Diego, Calif.

Steigerwalt

Gregory Steigerwalt, a senior in the A.J. Palumbo School of Business Administration, has been named to the fall 2010 dean's list at Duquesne University. The dean's list recognizes full-time students who have maintained a 3.5 grade point average on a 4.0 scale. He attained a GPA of 3.94 for the semester.

Kayla Stanek, daughter of Frank and Michelle Stanek of Summit Hill, has been named to the dean's list for the fall semester at Shippensburg University.

Jessica Fegley, daughter of Ken and Cherie Fegley of Towamensing Township, has been named to the Dean's list for the Fall semester at Penn State University Park receiving a GPA of 3.69. She is a freshman majoring in Landscape Architecture with a minor in Horticulture. She is a member of the Landscape Architecture Student Society. Jessica is a graduate of the Class of 2010 at Palmerton Area High School.

She is a 2010 graduate of Lehighton High School. She is a freshman at Lycoming majoring in biology. She is a Lyco Cheerleader for football and basketball. Dacin is the granddaughter of Dale Hepner and Mildred Kemmerer of Lehighton.

Army National Guard Spec. Lori J. Ahner has been mobilized and activated at Joint Base Dix-McGuire-Lakehurst, N.J., in preparation for deployment to serve in support of either Operation New Dawn or Operation Enduring Freedom. The soldier is a member of the 131st Transportation Company, Williamstown.

The soldiers are normally activated from Army Reserve or Army National Guard units from throughout the U.S. They go through a series of in-processing procedures and training classes that prepare them for skills and situations they may face in their deployed environment.

Ryan Oravec, son of Tim and Sharon Oravec of Andreas, was named to the dean's list for the fall semester at Bloomsburg University with a 4.0 GPA.

He is a sophomore, dual majoring in mathematics and computer science.

A 2009 graduate of Tamaqua Area High School, Oravec is also the grandson of Betty and George Vincent of Coaldale; and Ethel Oravec of Andreas and the late Frank Oravec.

Stacey Pera, an eighth grade student at Penn-Kidder Campus, Jim Thorpe School District, has been named as a student of the month. She recently was honored by the Penn-Kidder Lions Club at the Jan. 15 meeting at the Terra Cottage, Lake Harmony. She is the daughter of Chris and Gina Pera. Lion Brad Grissinger is treasurer of the club and Cynthia A. Kern is the secretary.
