Army National Guard Sgt. Robert A. Tiley has been mobilized and activated at Joint Base Dix-McGuire-Lakehurst, N.J., in preparation for deployment to serve in support of either Operation New Dawn or Operation Enduring Freedom. The soldier is a member of the 131st Transportation Company, based in Williamstown, Pa.

The soldiers are normally activated from Army Reserve or Army National Guard units from throughout the U.S. They go through a series of in-processing procedures and training classes that prepare them for skills and situations they may face in their deployed environment.

Lynn A. Davies, daughter of Jon and Debbie Davies of Tuscarora, has been named to the Dean's list for the Fall semester at Towson University in Maryland. A sophomore student, she is majoring in Occupational Therapy. A 2009 graduate of Tamaqua Area High School, she is the granddaughter of Betty Davies and Gwen Evans, both of Tamaqua.

At East Penn Elementary School, selected as students of the month are: kindergarten, Mrs. Betz, Olivia Sirsky; and Miss Wassmer, Morgan Peters; first grade, Mrs. Bruch, Tret Solt; and Mrs. Zerbe, Kaylee Strohl; second grade, Mrs. Biery, Steven Fritzinger; and Mrs. Bonser, Taylor Engle; third grade, Mrs. Snyder, Roger Arthur; and fourth grade, Mrs. Breiner, Jordyn Zwetolitz and Logan Pagotto.

Reis

Krystallynn Reis, daughter of Pat and John Reis of Towamensing Township, has been named to the dean's list for the fall semester at East Stroudsburg University, receiving a 4.0.

She is a 2006 graduate of Palmerton Area High School, and a 2008 graduate of LCCC, where she received an associate degree in business administration. She is in her senior year at ESU, working toward a bachelor of science degree in early childhood development.

Krystallynn is the granddaughter of Patricia and Richard Whiting of Philadelphia, and Maria and Joao Reis of Rotonda West, Florida.

Reis

Jesse Reis, son of Pat and John Reis of Towamensing Township, has been named to the dean's list for the fall semester at Penn State University Park, receiving a 3.6.

Jesse was the salutatorian of the class of 2010 at Palmerton High School. He is in his freshmen year at Penn State, majoring in marketing and is a member of the Penn State Marketing Association and The Blue and White Society of Penn State University.

Jesse is the grandson of Patricia and Richard Whiting of Philadelphia, and Maria and Joao Reis of Rotonda West, Florida.

At Franklin Elementary School students are, kindergarten, Faith Yeakel; first grade, Holly Fasching; second grade, Ashley Beers; third grade, Rayna Wehr; and fourth grade, Zachary Crum.

Art Student of the Month of December at East Penn Elementary School are, kindergarten, Amy Dwojewski; first grade, Erinn Homm; second grade, Kyle Burbage; third grade, Aijah Hill and fourth grade, Logan Pagotto.

Mulligan

Shane Mulligan, a sophomore at Tamaqua Area High School, has been selected to participate in the 2011 District 10 Chorus Festival.

The festival, hosted by Easton Area High School, is a three day musical event featuring students from Schuylkill, Carbon, Lehigh, Berks, Monroe, and Northampton Counties.

The festival will culminate with concerts for the public on Friday, Jan. 14 and Saturday, Jan. 15.

Shane is the son of Ildiko and Thomas Maurer and John Mulligan of Tamaqua.

Two sons of Joe and Jackie DeAngelo of Coaldale made the dean's list at their respective colleges for the fall 2010 semester.

John was named to the dean's list at Muhlenberg College, Allentown. He is a senior majoring in accounting and is a 2007 graduate of Marian Catholic High School.

Michael has been named to the dean's list for the fall semester at Shippensburg University. He is a junior majoring in mathematics with a secondary education certification concentration, and is a 2008 graduate of Marian Catholic High School.
