Salem St. Paul's Lutheran Church

Personal Care Kits are being assembled by Salem St. Paul's Lutheran Church's Sunday School, Kresgeville, for Lutheran World Relief to distribute to people in disaster areas.

Each kit will contain: one dark colored bath-size towel, two bath-size bars of soap in original wrapping, one adult-size toothbrush in original wrapping, one sturdy comb, one metal nail clipper with attached file. Please collect and donate as many items as you can.

Bring the items to church during the month of November and put them in a collection box in the lobby.

Donation given

Alyse Mitten, from the Mid-Atlantic Community Papers Association was the speaker at the Western Pocono Lions Club meeting last week. Several members of the Western Pocono Lioness Club attended. Members of both groups judged the advertising for the association's annual competition last year, which Lions Club members had done by themselves previously.

In recognition of their service to the association, Mitten presented a check to the Lions for the Lions Clubs International Foundation.

Recycling Day

Eldred Township is holding an Electronic and Universal Waste Recycling Day on Saturday, Nov. 19 from 9 a.m. until noon at the Eldred Township municipal building. There are no fees for telephones, cell phones, bundled cardboard, keyboards/mice, cables and cords. Minimal fees apply to certain items for the recycling cost of hazardous or data sensitive material such as computer monitors, washers, dryers, stoves, air conditioners, televisions. Blood drive today

The Western Pocono Lions Club, in cooperation with the American Legion, Gilbert, is holding an American Red Cross blood drive today at the Legion post home from 1:30-6 p.m. Walk-in donors are welcome.

The club will hold its regular meeting at 7 p.m. at Ye Olde Saylors Inn, with special guest Alyse Mitten speaking on the judging of free community newspapers.

Veterans Day observance

On Sunday, Nov. 13, St. Matthew's UCC 9 a.m. church service will be totally devoted to honoring and thanking the men and women who have served our country.

Everyone is invited to attend asked to wear something red, white and blue.

Lions double duty

On Wednesday, Nov. 16, members of the Western Pocono Lions Club will be doing double duty. During the day, the club will be hosting a blood drive for the American Red Cross with cooperation from the American Legion in Gilbert, where the drive is being held. Hours are from 1:30 to 6 p.m.

Registration may be made at (570) 823-7164, ext. 2108, but walk-ins are welcome.

In the evening, the club will hold its regular meeting at Ye Olde Saylors Inn in Saylorsburg, beginning with a social time at 6:30 p.m.

A free Community Spaghetti Dinner will be held from 4-7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 12 at Cornerstone Community Church, located at the corner of Polk Township and H.T.Y. roads in Kresgeville.

The church has several opportunities for fellowship.

Historical society

Chestnuthill Township Historical Society will meet at 7 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 16, at the Chestnuthill Township Park Building on Route 715.

The historical society invites residents to join in the group's quest to preserve the township's history.

PIC Award

Pride in Chestnuthill (PIC) voted on the annual Chestnuthill Township Beautification Award at its meeting Oct. 13.

The award will be presented to the winner at the November Chestnuthill Township Supervisors' meeting.

The PIC committee extends its thanks to all the businesses that did an outstanding job, maintaining and beautifying their businesses.

The group welcomes residents or township officials in Monroe County who would like to start a similar program, to attend any of the PIC meetings.
