Supply pastor

St. Matthew's supply pastor for 9 a.m. worship service will be the Rev. John Dech.

Christmas Cantata

At 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 16, St. Matthew's UCC will present the cantata "Voices of Christmas," performed by members of the choirs of St. Matthew's, Effort UMC and Our Lady Queen of Peace under the direction of Dan Smale.

Additional performances will take place at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 17 at Effort UMC at 7:30 p.m.; and Sunday, Dec. 18 at Our Lady Queen of Peace at 4 p.m.

Western Pocono Lions Club

Club President Charles Rush reminds members that they were needed for ringing the Salvation Army bells at Kinsley's ShopRite in Brodheadsville and announced that the next two club meetings would take place at Olde Mill Pizza and Restaurant in Sciota rather than at Ye Olde Saylors Inn, due to that entity being closed for the two months.

Christmas Tree Lighting

Polk Township's tree lighting and sing-along at the Polk Township Veterans Memorial in Kresgeville, will take place at 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 9.

There will be cookies and a visit from Santa.

The memorial is located across from the Kresgeville Post Office.

Rain date is Sunday, Dec 11 at 7 p.m.

PVI school band concerts

On Thursday, Dec 8 the Pleasant Valley Intermediate School sixth-grade band will be performing in the gym at 7:30 p.m.

On Tuesday, Dec. 13 the seventh-grade band will be performing, also in the gym.

Feast Day Masses

The Feast of the Immaculate Conception, Dec. 8, is a Holy Day of Obligation for those of the Roman Catholic faith. Our Lady Queen of Peace will hold Mass at 5 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 7, and at 8 a.m., 12:10 p.m. and 7 p.m., on Dec. 8.

Knights meet

The Knights of Columbus of Our Lady Queen of Peace will meet at 7:30 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 8, at the church, in McCawley Hall.

Santa to visit

Chestnuthill Township Park will host Santa Claus this weekend.

He is coming, probably via fire truck, Friday, Dec. 9, from 6-8 p.m.

Salem St. Paul's Lutheran Church

The congregational meeting for Salem St. Paul's Lutheran Church for the 2012 Budget is Sunday, Dec. 4 after the 10:30 a.m. service.

Members should plan to attend this important meeting. (If weather is bad they will meet on Dec. 13.)

St. Matthew's

This Sunday, Dec. 4, the Rev. Dr. Scott Brooks Cope, Director of Pastoral Care at Phoebe Ministries, will be the supply pastor.

There will be a Blue Christmas service on Monday, Dec. 5 at 7 p.m. for those who may be feeling a big "blue" this holiday season. Perhaps you are grieving a loved one or the pain of a lost relationship, job or health. Come to the service for some healing grace. The Rev. John Dech will be the supply pastor.

Celebrate the Christmas Season with the Live Nativity. The Live Nativity participants will participate in the parade on Dec. 2 at 5:30 p.m. on Broadway. Then they will reenact the first nativity at Acorn Court behind Chatelaine's jewelry, 81 Broadway, throughout the night. Please bring your family and join them for this Christmas tradition.

Following the parade, the tree lighting ceremony will take place in the Josiah White Park at 6 p.m.

There is no St. Matthew's UCC youth group meeting on Friday, Nov. 25. It will meet again on Friday, Dec. 2 at 5 p.m.

Homecoming

St. Matthew's UCC invites you to a Homecoming on Sunday, Nov. 27 at 9 a.m. Bring a Christmas ornament to deck the tree and listen to the music of "The Master's Touch," a local singing group. After the service, stay and enjoy brunch and some fellowship.

Salem St. Paul's Lutheran Church

Personal Care Kits are being assembled by Salem St. Paul's Lutheran Church's Sunday School, Kresgeville, for Lutheran World Relief to distribute to people in disaster areas.

Each kit will contain: one dark colored bath-size towel, two bath-size bars of soap in original wrapping, one adult-size toothbrush in original wrapping, one sturdy comb, one metal nail clipper with attached file. Please collect and donate as many items as you can.

Bring the items to church during the month of November and put them in a collection box in the lobby.
