PVE open house

Pleasant Valley Elementary will host an open house on Thursday, Sept. 13 from 6-8 p.m. for grades 2-3.

PTO meetings

Pleasant Valley Elementary will have its first PTO meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 18 at 4 p.m. in the all purpose room.

PV Intermediate will also be having its first PTO meeting on Wednesday, Sept. 19 at 4 p.m. in the library.

Young at Heart Seniors

The Young at Heart Seniors will meet on Tuesday, Sept. 18 at 10 a.m. at the Polk Township Vol. Fire Co. in Kresgeville.

PIC meets

Pride in Chestnuthill (PIC) announces that the time is here for the annual Chestnuthill Township Beautification Award. This honor is given to a business in the township for its outstanding beautification of the property.

Previous winners not only had a clean, well-kept property, but also planted a host of different beautiful annual flowers.

The next PIC meeting will be at 7 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 13, at the Chestnuthill Township Municipal Building on Route 715 in Brodheadsville.

Community Day Fair

Ross Township will hold its free fourth annual Community Day Fair at the Haney/VanBuskirk Park, Anchorage Rd in Saylorsburg on Saturday, Sept. 15 from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Rain date is Sunday, Sept. 16.

The event is designed to bring residents together and let them know of the community groups and municipal/county services available to them. It's not too late to register your group or organization, free of charge.

The day will include, food, demonstrations, entertainment and new this year will be crafters showcasing their talents.

Cornerstone Community Church

Cornerstone Community Church will now have two worship services beginning Sunday, Sept. 9.

Join them for Sunday worship at 8:30 a.m.

You will find a one-hour service with nursery, toddler and preschool care provided. They invite you to stay for their Sunday School program for all ages at 9:45 a.m.

The second Sunday worship begins at 11 a.m. with nursery, toddler and preschool care for the younger crowd.

During this service they offer Jr. Worship for children in grades K-3 and Preteen Zone for kids in grades 4-6.

Western Pocono Lioness

Western Pocono Lioness Club held its ice cream social and meeting last week.

Various reports dealt with the upcoming fashion show the club is hosting at Hideaway Hills Golf Course in Kresgeville. The club also heard from its Monroe County Conservation camp sponsored student, Joseph Hulton, via a letter.

Sunday School

Sunday School at St. Matthew's UCC will begin on Sunday, Sept. 9 at 10:30 a.m. The kick-off will begin with a Rally Day event. There are classes for preschool to adults and everyone is welcome to attend.

Blood Drive

St. Matthew's will be holding a Blood Drive on Monday, Sept. 17 from 1-6 p.m. Please consider donating.

Cornerstone Community Church

Sunday School for all ages from 9:45-10:45 a.m. at Cornerstone Community Church will resume on Sunday, Sept. 9. The Sunday School Program offers a complete program from nursery through adult. The mission of the program is to teach the existence and truth of God's Word, the Bible. They teach the salvation message and the personal nature of one's commitment to Jesus Christ. They also teach how to live, grow and serve in this world as a member of the family of God.

Maternity clothes drive

The TLC Moms Group at Our Lady Queen of Peace is holding its annual Maternity Clothes Drive to benefit Monroe County's Shepherd's Maternity House.

Both new and used maternity clothes are desperately needed. The drive will continue until the group's first meeting of the school year, Sept. 6.

Items may be dropped off in McCawley Hall at the specially marked TLC table.

Horseshoe winners

The St. Matthew's UCC's picnic was deemed a great success, thanks to all its volunteers and to all those who came out to support it.

The Horseshoe Tournament was an added feature this year and the winners were: Henry Krechel, singles and Bruce Pozza and Mark Bittenbender won doubles.
