Chestnut Ridge Seniors

The Chestnut Ridge Seniors will meet at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 9 at the Kunkletown Volunteer Fire Co. Bring a bag lunch. They will be playing bingo.

Blood drive

The American Red Cross will be holding a blood drive and double red cells drive from 1-6 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 29.

Supervisors' meeting

The Eldred Township Board of Supervisors' reorganization meeting is 7:30 p.m., Monday, Jan. 6 at the municipal building.

Salem St Paul's Lutheran Church

The shelves at the local food pantry, PVEN, are bare and nonperishable food is needed. Put it in the barrel by the church office.

Clothing is also needed for PVEN, including infant and toddler snowsuits and winter coats, men's winter coats, boys clothes (especially jeans) size 4-18, men's sweat pants (all sizes) and T-shirts XL and XXL. Bring items to church and place by the food barrel.

Meeting change

The board of directors for the Western Pocono Lions Club will meet on Wednesday, Jan. 8, due to the holiday. That meeting will be at the Western Pocono Community Library at 7 p.m. All Lions are welcome.

National Soup Month

In honor of January being National Soup Month, the Western Pocono Community Library is hosting a soup event in early January. For more information call the library at 570-992-7934.

Pleasant Valley Band parents will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday at the high school.

Salem St. Paul's Lutheran Church

PVEN, the local food pantry, is in desperate need of all foods, including: canned vegetables, soups, tuna fish, pasta, cereal, canned yams, boxed stuffing, gravy, cranberry sauce (for holidays) etc. There is a barrel available at the church for donations.

Religious classes

Our Lady Queen of Peace Church will hold no religious education classes now through Jan. 3.

Classes resume Jan. 4, 5, 6, and 7.

Food pantry closed

Effort UMC's Food Pantry will be closed Dec. 28. Regular hours will be held in January.

Saturday services

The Saturday evening service at Effort UMC will be held at 5 p.m., Dec. 28.

Regularly scheduled services will also be held on Sunday, Dec. 29 at 8:30 and 11 a.m.

Christmas Eve services

St. Matthew's will have two services on Tuesday, Dec. 24. The Family Service will be at 7 p.m. which will include a Children's Christmas pageant and Holy Communion. The 10 p.m. service will be a Service of Lessons and Carols with communion and candlelight. Bring a friend or two.

Chestnut Ridge Seniors

The Chestnut Ridge Seniors will not meet on Thursday, Dec. 26. They will meet again on Thursday, Jan. 9.

Salem St. Paul's

The Hanging of the Greens will be at 12:30 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 21. They will be decorating the church for the Christmas season, preceded at noon by a luncheon. The sign-up sheet will be posted on the bulletin board by the church secretary's office. This event is open to everyone, not just the people coming to decorate.

The Christmas Cantata will be at 10:30 a.m., Sunday, Dec. 22 followed by a social hour.

Christmas Eve worship with communion and candle lighting is 4:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. on Christmas Eve. Nursery will be provided.

The Pleasant Valley Choral Concert is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Thursday.

PV Board meets

The Pleasant Valley Board of Education will meet at 8 p.m., Thursday in the district office in Brodheadsville.

Monroe Seniors

The Monroe Seniors will meet at Zion Lutheran in the parish hall will be at 9 a.m., Friday. Due to the Christmas holiday, the group will not meet again until Dec. 27.

Pleasant Valley Bible classes

The Pleasant Valley Bible Classes have started at the Cornerstone Community Church from 1:30-2:25 p.m. and from 2:30-3:30 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 6 and will continue until May 2014, for the Pleasant Valley Elementary, Polk and the Pleasant Valley Intermediate students each Friday that school is in session. Permission slips are available at the school offices

Tree lighting

The Polk Township tree lighting ceremony was cancelled due to the weather, and as of this date, has not been rescheduled.
