St. Matthew's

St. Matthew's UCC thanks everyone who donated candy for the Trunk or Treat event.

If you are interested in becoming a new member of St. Matthew's, the Rev. Suzanne Brooks-Cope, pastor, will offer a New Members Orientation Session at 10:30 a.m., Sunday, Nov. 10. Contact her at 610-381-2442.

The pastor is conducting a Bible Study class on "When Grief Breaks Your Heart" at 1 p.m. on Tuesdays.

The study can help those through difficult times of loss, whether it be a loved one, a job, or any other kind of loss.

Masses announced

Our Lady Queen of Peace has announced the upcoming Mass schedule for All Saints, a Holy Day of Obligation, for 5 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 31 and at 8 a.m., 12:10 p.m. and 7 p.m., Friday, Nov. 1, All Souls' Day (Memorial Mass). On Saturday, Nov. 2, Mass will be celebrated at 8 a.m.

PVEN's needs list

PVEN has sent out a list of needs: toddler and infant snow pants; boys' clothes sizes 4-18, especially jeans; men's sweat pants and coats; XL and XXL shirts.

They also need food items like peanut butter, jelly, mac and cheese, tuna, soup, cereal and anything else nonperishable.

All items can be dropped off at St. Matthew's UCC during office hours of Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. and Sundays from 8-11:30 a.m.

PVI PAC meeting

Pleasant Valley Intermediate will hold a PAC meeting at 6 o'clock this evening in the library. Please attend to discuss issues involving the Pleasant Valley School District.

Meet Your Friends Night

From 3:45-6 p.m. Friday Pleasant Valley Intermediate PTO will host its fourth-grade Meet Your Friends Night in the school cafeteria.

Garlic planted

The garlic planting and tours of the Garden of Giving in McMichaels were a success and organizers are grateful to all who participated, as well as those who have given their support throughout the year.

This includes Charles Snyder, New Holland Tractors, and donors who helped get a new tractor, and Eric Galante, whose Eagle Scout project gave the garden eight more raised beds, bringing the number up to 32.

Halloween parade

This Sunday is the Eldred Township Halloween Parade. It will begin at 1 p.m. The rain date is Sunday, Oct. 27. (Check website for cancellation news.)

Check-in time is at St. Matthew's UCC's church grove between 11 a.m. and noon. Judging will begin promptly at 12:15 p.m. Only preregistered applicants will be judged but anyone is welcome to come dressed and be a part of the parade. There will be no registrations the day of the parade.

School play

The play, One in a Million, will take place at Pleasant Valley Middle School at 3:30 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 7, as a dress rehearsal to which Senior Citizens are invited, for free. Light refreshments will be served.

The play is being performed by the PV Drama Club, under the direction of Rollene Gougher, a PVMS math teacher.

Halloween parade

The Eldred Township Halloween Parade's registration deadline is this Sunday for the Sunday, Oct. 20th parade (rain date Oct. 27). Registration forms are available at the township municipal building, Kunkletown Post Office and the Kunkletown General Store.

There is no registration fee but participants are encouraged to bring a nonperishable food item to be donated to Pleasant Valley Ecumenical Network's food bank. Treats are only guaranteed for those who have preregistered.
