Summit Hill

Food pantry

The Summit Hill Food Pantry will be open on Tuesday, July 23 from 10 a.m. to noon. The food pantry is located in the Summit Hill Heritage Center on Hazard and Chestnut streets. There is to be no parking in the alley prior to 9:45 a.m. and absolutely no parking in the vacant lot. Recipients are reminded to bring along extra strong shopping/tote bags.

The annual picnic will be held Monday, Aug. 12 beginning at noon. Activities will include a Chinese auction and bingo.

The next meeting will be held Monday, July 22 at St. John's Slovak Lutheran Social Hall at 1 p.m.

The last opportunity to sign up for the annual picnic will be at this meeting.

Tonight at 7 p.m., St. John's Lutheran Church, 1 E. Abbott St., Lansford, will hold an informal worship. This will be a spiritual, peaceful, evening service with Holy Communion. All are welcome to this relaxed, brief, musical, evening prayer.

Golden Agers

The June 10 meeting of the Panther Valley Golden Agers opened with a Flag Day prayer by Shirley Pavlick.

The history of the American flag was read and Ruth Anne Feane led the group singing patriotic songs paying tribute to all the military branches.

The hospitality committee for July and August are Sue Dopira and Fran Hager. The next meeting will be Monday, June 24 at 1 p.m. at St. John's Slovak Lutheran Church Social Hall.

Sign-ups for the upcoming picnic, to be held Aug. 12 at the # 9 Picnic Grove, will be held at this meeting.

Free lunch for kids

The Nesquehoning Free Lunch for Kids is open 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday during the summer at Meed's Methodist Church.

No meal will be served on Thursday this week, due to a funeral luncheon.

Donations from organizations and businesses can be sent to Grace Vanmartin in care of the church.
