Senior center

Fran Craigie, Panther Valley Senior Center manager, has announced that on May 1 there will be pay bingo at 11 a.m. and the Sunshine meeting will be held after lunch.

From May 4 through May 14 the center will be closed due to the Senior Games.

Starting May 17 dice will be played at 11 a.m. May 18 there will be a bus trip to the Sands Casino, leaving at 10 a.m. from CVS. May 19 is pay bingo at 11 a.m. May 20 is Penny bingo at 11 a.m. May 21 the center will be open but there will be shopping on the CCCT leaving at 9:30 a.m.

The Summit Hill High School Class of 1957 will hold a reunion luncheon at noon on Thursday, May 27 at Macaluso's at the Lantern on Route 209 in Nesquehoning.

Invitations have been sent to all class members. Those who have not responded are asked to contact Ann Marie Pisklak Lill at (570) 645-2410 by Friday, May 7.

Lee Mantz, president of the Summit Hill Historical Society, will be the featured speaker following the luncheon. He will speak about the borough's history, with emphasis on the class' alma mater Summit Hill High School, which was built nearly a century ago in 1911.

Coaldale

First Congregational Church

Morning Worship will be conducted at First Congregational Church at 9 a.m. Sunday May 2, followed by Sunday School at 10 a.m.

Nursing home services will be held at St. Luke's Miners at 11 a.m. and at Maple Shade, Nesquehoning, at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 5. Choir rehearsal will take place at 6:30 p.m. that evening.

A Mother's Day Service will be held at 9 a.m. Sunday, May 9, with Sunday School at 10 a.m.

The Nesquehoning Lions Club has planned its meeting for Monday, May 3 at 6:30 p.m. at the club building. There will be no dinner at this meeting.

Fishing derby

Children of the surrounding area are invited to the Nesquehoning Conservation Club's annual Fishing Derby on May 8. The registration is at 8 a.m. in the parking lot near CVS on Locust Street.

Each child will receive a prize and first place will be a $250 gift card to Cabela's.

NCFC auxiliary

The ladies auxiliary to the New Columbus Fire Company will meet on Tuesday, May 4 at 7 p.m. in the fire station. Gerry McConnon, president, reminds everyone to bring their hoagie papers.

The hospitality committee will be Nancy Canzoneri and Martha Ciarvella.

Loyalty Day

Everyone is invited to the annual Loyalty Day on Saturday, May 1 at 6 p.m. at the Nesquehoning VFW Post 8008.

A social hour will follow the program. All auxiliary members planning to attend are reminded to bring a dessert item.

Lansford Alive

The board of directors of Lansford Alive met April 22 at Rosie's Restaurant, reviewing potential projects to be funded with funds remaining from the Rural Business Enterprise Grant. The board decided to meet with a representative of the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Rural Development Initiative, the funding source. The meeting will be scheduled for the very near future in order to receive approval for the suggested projects.

Community yard sale

The Coaldale Borough will holds its community yard sale on Saturday, May 15 from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m.

Every borough resident is invited to participate free of charge.

Residents should put items for sale in their yards by 8 a.m. on Saturday, May 15, and provide their own tables if necessary.

St. John's will be celebrating its 75th Diamond Anniversary on Sept. 19.
