The Grand Army of the Republic Cemetery Association Board of Directors will be holding a rededication service on Saturday at 10 a.m. at the main gate of the Cemetery on the 500 block of East White Street.

The service will be followed by a free hosted walking tour of the cemetery grounds with an anecdotal and descriptive history of the cemetery and its residents as well as the monuments and their architecture.

Summit Hill

Lutheran Church

St. Paul Lutheran Church, Summit Hill, will hold a worship service with Confirmation on Sunday, May 30, at 10:30 a.m. The Rev. John Hazel, pastor, will officiate.

A special congregational meeting will be held on Sunday, June 6, immediately following the worship service.

Items to be discussed are the expense ratio with Zion Lutheran Church, Nesquehoning, the Simply Giving Program, and consideration of selling the parsonage.

After the Nesquehoning Borough Council came out of executive session for personnel reasons this week additional items were discussed. Missing from this month's council meeting were council men Michael Sniscak and Frank DiMiceli.

Mayor Tony Walck mentioned that the Memorial Day Parade in town will form at 8 a.m. at the Nesquehoning Recreation Center and begin march at 8:30 a.m.

The Crime Watch meeting will be held this month on June 15 at 7 p.m at the Borough Hall.

The lineup for the Nesquehoning Memorial Day Parade will form at the Nesquehoning Recreation Center at 8 a.m. on Monday.

Marchers will step out into the line of march at 8:30 a.m. They will stop for salutes at the VFW Monument and St. Patrick's Cemetery on West Catawissa Street. They will proceed to the Nesquehoning VFW where a ceremony will be held.

Featured as the guest speaker will be Craig Strohl. All are invited to the patriotic ceremony.

Congregation to meet

St. Paul Lutheran Church, Summit Hill, will hold a special congregational meeting on Sunday, June 6, immediately following the worship service.

VFW

Joint Installation of Officers of Nesquehoning Memorial VFW Post 8008 will be held on Friday, May 28, beginning at 7 p.m. All post and auxiliary officers should be present by 6:30 p.m. for pictures. A social hour will follow the ceremony.

Auxiliary members are reminded to bring a dessert.

All members are welcome and invited to attend the ceremony to meet and greet their new officers for the 2010-2011 year.

Summit Hill police announced parking regulations for the annual Memorial Day parade scheduled for Monday, May 31. The regulations take effect starting at 9 a.m. Vehicles not moved will be ticketed and towed at the owner's expense.

No parking on Market St., from Hazard to Holland; no parking on Ludlow, from Chestnut to and including Coal; no parking White, from Maple to Coal; no parking Ludlow, from Maple and Elm; no parking Elm, from Ludlow to Hazard; and no parkiong on Elm.

Free dinner

The free community dinner sponsored by the Meed's Methodist Church will be held on Wednesday, May 26 from 5-7 p.m. at the church. This month's dinner will be spaghetti and meatballs.
