PV Golden Agers

Panther Valley Golden Agers will resume their meetings on Monday, March 14 at 1 p.m. at St. Joseph Hall, Summit Hill.

The hall is handicapped accessible.

Chorus practice will begin at 11 a.m. (weather permitting).

Hospitality for March and April are Sue Dopira, Verna Lazorchik and Betty Marek.

Members are asked to wear green in honor of St. Patrick's Day for the meeting.

There will be a meeting of the Summit Hill Republican Club on Thursday, March 10 at 7 p.m. in the Borough Hall. Items to be discussed are the upcoming primary election, election of officers and the group will be hosting candidate Attorney Joseph Matika who is running for Judge for the Court of Common Pleas in Carbon County. Any interested Republican is invited to come and meet this candidate. President David A. Wargo will be running the meeting.

Reservations are still being accepted for the Coaldale Hgh School Alumni Reunion on Saturday, May 28.

Anyone who has even attended Coaldale schools is invited to attend.

The reunion will be held at Genetti's Best Western, Hazleton. A social hour will begin at 4 p.m. followed by dinner at 5 p.m.

No reservations can be honored after April 27.

Legion to meet

The monthly meeting of American Legion Post 316, Summit Hill, will be held on Monday, March 14, at 7:30 p.m. in the post home. Commander W. Kevin O'Donnell will be in charge of the session.

A meeting of the Home Association will immediately follow the post's meeting.

Borough council

The next meeting of the Summit Hill Borough Council is scheduled for Monday, March 14, at 7 p.m. in the borough hall. Joseph Weber, president, will chair the session.

The schedule of activities for the Panther Valley Senior Center continues with March 14 when there will be horse racing at 11 a.m.; March 15 there will be a van trip and bowling after lunch; March 16 they will be celebrating the monthly birthdays and bingo at 11 a.m.; March 17 sing-a-long at 11 a.m.; March 18 St. Patrick's Party at 11 a.m.

PV Senior Center

National Nutrition month will be celebrated this month at the Panther Valley Senior Center.

On March 3 is penny game at 11 a.m. and March 4 is Deal or No Deal at 11 a.m.

March 7 is candy bingo at 11 a.m.; March 8 is celebration of Mardi Gras at 11 a.m.; March 9 is bean bags and darts; March 10 is blood pressure screenings from 10:30-11:30 a.m.; March 11 is Wii bowling.

Cat licensing

Summit Hill Borough officials remind residents the borough has a cat ordinance that requires owners of cats to obtain a license for the pet.

Choir practice

Choir practice will be held on Wednesday, March 2 at 1 p.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Church in Nesquehoning. Interested parishioners are welcome to take part in practicing for Lent, Easter, First Holy Communion, and Confirmation.


Transmission bills

As a convenience to the residents of the Borough of Lansford, the annual sewer transmission bills can be paid at the First Niagara Bank, 13 W. Ridge St., Lansford, until March 15.

Summit Hill

St. Paul Lutheran

The "Doughnut Nite" festivities that had been planned for St. Paul Lutheran Church, Summit Hill, on Tuesday, March 8, have been canceled.

The congregation will hold a church council meeting that night at 7 o'clock.

Food distribution

The Summit Hill Food Pantry distributes food boxes to the needy in town on a monthly basis. Drop-offs are usually made on the fourth Tuesday of the month.

Conservation club

The Nesquehoning Conservation Club will hold its next meeting on Wednesday, March 2 at 6:30 p.m. at MapleShade ALC.

The spring fishing derby will be discussed. The 2011 dues are now payable.
