Nesquehoning

VFW Ladies Auxiliary

The VFW Ladies Auxiliary meeting of Jan. 11 was canceled due to inclement weather and lack of a quorum. It will not be rescheduled.

All members who have not yet paid their 2011 dues are reminded they are now delinquent. Dues should be paid as soon as possible.

The next regular meeting will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 8, weather permitting, beginning at 6:30 p.m. at the post home.

Summit Hill

Democrats elect

Nathan Halenar was elected president of the Jeffersonian Democratic Club, Summit Hill, during a reorganizational meeting held last week in the Summit Hill Borough Hall. He succeeds Robin McArdle.

Other officers are Robert Crampsie, vice president; Alice Kane, secretary; and Joseph O'Gurek Jr., treasurer.

The club will meet on the third Thursday of each month at 7 p.m. in the borough hall. The next meeting is scheduled for Feb. 17.

JROTC

The Panther Valley High School's JROTC will hold a meting on Thursday, Jan. 20 at 6 p.m. in the JROTC classroom.

Parents are welcome to these meetings.

Summit Hill

Methodist Charge

The schedule of services for the Coaldale/Summit Hill United Methodist Charge for Sunday, Jan. 16, is as follows:

Worship services will be held at 9 a.m. in the Summit Hill United Methodist Church and at 11 a.m. in the Coaldale United Methodist Church. The Rev. Burgess Gordon, pastor, will officiate at both services.

Panther Valley Senior Center

The remaining list of activities at the Panther Valley Senior Center, 90 East Catawissa St., Nesquehoning is as follows.

On Jan. 17, Deal or No Deal, played at 11 a.m.; Jan. 18 line dancing in the morning; Jan. 19 birthdays celebrated for the month and bingo at 11 a.m. and there will be a salad bar; Jan. 20 darts; Jan. 21 shopping at 9:30 a.m. The center remains open.

St. John the Baptist Orthodox Church, 9 W. Railroad St., Nesquehoning, will host services for the Christmas season.

A service of the Great Compline with Litia for the feast of the nativity of the Lord and a medley of Christmas carols will be held at 9 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 6.

At 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 7, there will be divine liturgy of Christmas Day with festal anointing.

A divine liturgy for the feast of the Synaxis of the Birthgiver of God with festal anointing will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday.

VFW auxiliary

The regular meeting of the Ladies Auxiliary to Nesquehoning Memorial VFW Post 8008 will be held on Tuesday, Jan. 11, at the Post Home on East Center Street. President Amanda Breiner will preside at the session, which begins at 6:30 p.m.

Senior center

Chair exercises will be held starting on Jan. 3 at the Panther Valley Senior Center.

On Jan. 4 there will be line dancing and a Sunshine Meeting. Jan. 5 everyone will play candy bingo at 11 a.m. Jan. 6 is penny game at 11 a.m. and Jan. 7 you can shoot pool.
