Summit Hill

Lions Club

Members of the Summit Hill Lions Club will be participating in the tree decorating event at The Summit Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Lehighton.

The event will take place tomorrow. For more information, contact club president, Dr. Kenneth Vermillion.

The club's annual Christmas party will be held on Sunday, Dec. 19, at 6 p.m. at Macaluso's at The Lantern, Nesquehoning.

St. John's Lutheran

Each Wednesday at 7 p.m., St. John's Lutheran Church, 1 E. Abbott St., Lansford, holds an informal worship: a spiritual, peaceful evening service with Holy Communion. All are welcome to this relaxed, brief evening prayer.

Benefit volleyball game at PVMS

Panther Valley School District will be doing a volleyball student vs. faculty tournament this year on Sunday, Dec. 5 at 6 p.m.. at the Panther Valley Middle school.

The school is involving the students this year, especially since Cody Cinicola is currently battling cancer and is going through treatments right now at Children's Hospital in Philadelphia.

The doors will open at 5 p.m. with the kitchen being open with many foods available (haluski, turkey bbq, beef bbq) just to name a few.

The Nesquehoning Recreation Center will hold a Christmas party for children of Nesquehoning, 10 years of age and younger. Call (570) 669-6456 by Wednesday to make reservations. There is no bingo at the center this Wednesday. The Christmas party will be held at 6 p.m. on Dec. 13.

Lansford

Diocesan board

The Rev. Kenneth A. Medve, pastor of St. Katharine Drexel Catholic Church, Lansford, has been appointed to the board of directors of the Diocese of Allentown's Catholic Charities Appeal.

The appointment was announced recently by the Most Rev. John O. Barres, D.D., Bishop of Allentown.

Medve will serve a three-year term that begins immediately and will run through June 13, 2013.

Christmas party

The St. Ann Society, Branch No. 140, will hold its annual Christmas party on Sunday, Dec. 5, at the Lantern, Nesquehoning. The dinner will be served at 1:30 p.m.

To host bloodmobile

St. Joseph Catholic Church, Summit Hill, will sponsor a bloodmobile visit by the Miller-Keystone Blood Center on Tuesday, Dec. 14, from 2 to 7 p.m., in the church hall.

PV Golden Agers

At the Nov. 8 meeting of the Panther Valley Golden Agers a prayer for Veterans was recited by Norma J. Burke. Vice President Shirley Pavlick had a reading "Do Something Today." Minnie Kennedy led the group in a selection of patriotic songs.

The guest therapist from Miners Memorial will visit the club in the spring to lead in arm chair exercises.

Travel reports were given by Frank Karnish and Irene Hudasky for up coming trips. Mimi Marrin gave her Sunshine report.

PV Senior Center events

On Nov. 22 the Panther Valley Senior Center will celebrate November birthdays and play bingo at 11 a.m. Nov. 23 is line dancing. Nov. 24 is black jack at 11 a.m. The center will be closed on Thursday, Nov. 25 because of Thanksgiving. Nov. 26 the center is also closed.

Nov. 29 is bingo at 11 a.m. Nov. 30 is line dancing.

Please call or sign in by 10 a.m. for the next day's meal.

Also, on Friday, Nov. 18 Blue Mountain Health System will host a Health Fair at the Lehighton Senior Center between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m.
