JROTC meeting

A Panther Valley JROTC meeting will be held on Thursday, Feb. 17 at 6 p.m. in the JROTC classroom at the high school.

Nesquehoning

Zion Lutheran

Morning worship will begin at Zion Lutheran Church in Nesquehoning at 9 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 13. The sermon title this week is "To Preserve, Protect and to Prophesy."

Visitors are always welcome.

There will be a special congregational meeting immediately following the service on Sunday.

An important vote will be taken.

The Panther Valley Public Library has some sweet ideas for Valentine's Day.

On Monday, Feb 14, children ages 3-9 are welcome to attend a Valentine's Day story time with Miss Debi. The story time will include Valentine's books, making crafts and having snacks from 4-6 p.m.

On Valentine's Day, the library will be having a one day only sale on paperback love stories. Come in from 3:30-7:30 p.m. and buy a bag for your sweetheart. The library also has an array of antique Valentines on display throughout February.

Free haircuts at Meed's Methodist Church, West Catawissa Street, Nesquehoning, have been changed from Feb. 12 to Feb. 19 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The Lansford Food Pantry will be held on Monday, Feb. 21 from 9:30-11 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, 104East Abbott St., Lansford. The food pantry is held on the third Monday of each month and serves the residents of Lansford who meet the income guidelines.

The food pantry is a nonprofit organization run by volunteers of the community. Food items are purchased by state and federal funding and from donations from the local businesses and residents, which have been decreasing over the past few years.

Coaldale

GOP to meet

The Coaldale Republican Party will hold a meeting at the West Ward Rod & Gun Club on Monday, Feb. 14, at 7 p.m. Petitions and election information will be available for candidates interested in running in the Primary Election on May 17 for positions on borough council and the Panther Valley School Board.

Bob Ames, town chair, will preside at the meeting.

Continuing the list of activities for the Panther Valley Senior Center located in Nesquehoning are as follows: Monday, Feb. 14 the Valentine's Day party will be held at 11 a.m.; Feb. 15 is line dancing in the morning and black jack; Feb. 16 there will be a speaker form the Diakon Volunteer Services at 11 a.m.; Feb. 17 is Wii dancing at 11 a.m.; Feb. 18 shopping on CCCT at 9:30 a.m. and bean bags.

C.H.O.S.E. to meet

The C.H.O.S.E. Recreational Organization of Coaldale will have a meeting Thursday, Feb. 10 at 7 p.m. at the home of President Angela Krapf in Coaldale. Plans will be made for up coming events for the year. New members are always welcomed and needed.

Coaldale Lions to meet

Coaldale Lions will meet at 5:45 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 8 and Tuesday, Feb. 22 at the Viennese Villa, Coaldale. St. Luke's Miners Memorial Hospital director of development Micah Gursky and hospital CEO Bill Moyer will attend the Feb. 8 meeting to accept the third installment of a $10,000 gift from the club. Also that night, Past District Governor Bob Neumoyer will be on hand to present awards.

Past District Deputy Bob Argot will be a guest at the Feb. 22 meeting.

Club President Robert E. Ames will preside over the meetings.
