Meed's events

The free monthly dinner will be held on Wednesday, June 29 from 5-7 p.m. at the Meed's UMC Church.

Senior boxes will be distributed on Friday, July 1 from 10 a.m. to noon.

Golden Agers

The meeting of the Panther Valley Golden Agers opened with a prayer by Mary Ann Stotelmyer, "Flag Day Prayer For Our Nation." God Bless America was sung by the group.

A discussion about an indoor picnic was held among the members, with a possible day of having it in August. Anyone wishing to attend is asked to sign up at the upcoming meetings.

The Hospitality Committee for July and August are Joanne Large and Fran Hager.

Summit Hill

SHCIO elects

Maxine Vermillion was elected president of the Summit Hill Community Improvement Organization during a recent reorganizational meeting held in the borough hall. She succeeds Debra Ranck.

Other officers elected are Michele Toniatti, vice president; Harry Miller, treasurer; and Kira Michalik, secretary.

SHCIO will continue to meet on the first Monday of each month at 7 p.m. in the borough hall, although there will not be a meeting in July due to the Independence Day holiday.

PV Senior Center

The remaining list of activities for the Panther Valley Senior Center is as follows: June 20 exercise at 10 a.m. and a Father's Day celebration. On June 21, lottery bingo is at 11 a.m. June 22 everyone plays cards and shoots darts. June 23, guest speaker is Dr. Behler on colorectal cancer at 11 a.m. June 24 is the yard sale at 9 a.m.

On June 27 there is exercise at 10 a.m. and pay bingo at 11 a.m. On June 28 is horse racing at 11 a.m.; June 29 is exercise at 10 a.m. and ice cream after lunch; June 30 is penny game at 11 a.m.

PV Knee Hi

The Panther Valley Knee Hi will host a meeting on June 14 at 8 p.m. at the Sports Zoo in Lansford.

Final registration is being held for all players and cheerleaders on Saturday, June 11 from 10 a.m. to noon at the PV High School. There is a fee.

Summit Hill

St. Paul Lutheran

The Rev. Richard Spengler will be the guest preacher at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Summit Hill, on Sunday, June 12.

A retired pastor from Macungie, he will lead the 10:30 a.m. worship service.

Golden Agers

The meeting of May 23 of the Panther Valley Golden Agers was opened by Vice President Shirley Pavlick.

A Memorial Day Prayer was recited by Frank Karnish. There were only 27 members present. Sue Dopira read comments on "Signs Of Aging"

A moment of silence was held for former member Jean Baer. Three members of the club were recognized for participation at the Senior Games

Travel Reports were given by Karnish and Irene Hudasky on up coming trips. The Sunshine report was given by Mimi Marrin.

PV senior center

The Panther Valley Senior Center has announced its events for the month of June. The phone number is (570) 669-9930.

On June 6, there will be a bus leaving to see the Joey Dee Show at the Mohegan Sun at 10 a.m. It is already filled to capacity. The center will remain open. June 7 is penny game at 11 a.m. and a Sunshine meeting afterward. June 8 is exercise at 10 a.m. and can bingo at 11 a.m. On June 9 blood pressure screenings will be held from 10:30-11:30 a.m. June 10 is exercise at 10 a.m. and Deal or No Deal at 11 a.m.

Driver safety course

An AARP driver safety course will be presented at the Panther Valley Senior Center, 90 Catawissa St., Nesquehoning, July 12-13, beginning at 9 a.m. each day.

This class is the eight-hour class and is designed for those attending for the first time or those desiring a more in-depth presentation.

The class is designed for drivers 50 years old and older and is classroom instruction only.

Drivers completing the AARP driver safety course receive a certificate which entitles them to a minimum rate reduction of 5 percent on their auto insurance.
