Summit Hill

Struggling with addiction

If you or someone you know is struggling with drug and/or alcohol abuse and wants help, be sure to attend Church on the Rock, 1 W. Hazard St., at the Summit Hill Heritage Center, at 11 a.m. Sunday.

The "Holy Ground" worship team from the "Teen Challenge" program will appear with music and testimony. During the service, you will hear from men and women who have taken the path to recovery and victory through this Christ-centered rehabilitation program.

The Teen Challenge program serves both teens as well as adults.

Zion Lutheran

Worship service for Zion Lutheran Church, 2 E. Catawissa St., begins at 9 a.m. on Sunday with Vicar Dave Lembo presiding.

Visitors are always welcome.

A breakfast will be held beginning at 8 a.m. this Sunday in the church basement, in honor of Vicar Lembo, who will finish his internship at Zion on Aug. 24.

Reservations are still being accepted by calling 570-669-9562

Church council will meet on Sunday morning immediately following the worship service.

Electronics recycling

Electronics recycling in the borough of Summit Hill will be Aug. 13. Items must be out at the curb the night before.

Included in the event are: televisions, computers, keyboards, monitors, etc. All televisions must be in one piece with no parts removed or they will not be taken.

This will be a curbside pickup for Summit Hill residents only.

The menu for the free children's lunch next week at Meed's Church, 126 W Catawissa St. in Nesquehoning is as follows:

Ÿ Monday: Breakfast for lunch including eggs, sausage and toast

Ÿ Tuesday: Turkey BBQ, mashed potatoes, greens beans

Ÿ Wednesday: Macaroni and cheese, applesauce, carrot sticks

Ÿ Thursday: Chicken nuggets, fries, Jell-O

Ÿ Friday: Grilled cheese, applesauce, pudding

Summit Hill

Flag program

The Summit Hill Lions Club is continuing its American flag program in memory and honor of veterans from Summit Hill.

Throughout the good weather months, the flag will fly in Ludlow Park in memory or honor of the veterans.

Family members of veterans, or veterans themselves, can request to be scheduled by contacting Joseph O'Gurek at 570-645-5171.

During the week of July 28, the flag will be flown in memory of John, Michael and Joseph Lawrence, three brothers who were Army veterans of World War II.

Golden Agers

The July 14 meeting of the Panther Valley Golden Agers began with an introduction of a guest speaker from Heritage Hills Nursing Home in Weatherly.

Lisa Marie Halecky, marketing and admission director, spoke of facilities available and different types of insurance coverage.

The next meeting will be Monday at St. John Slovak Lutheran Church social hall at 1 p.m.

This will be the final date to sign up for the annual picnic to be held at the #9 Mine Museum picnic grove.

Summit Hill

Batman at Heritage Center

Batman will take over the Heritage Center at 6 p.m. Aug. 12. Doors open at 5:30

The center will welcome Batman and all his fans to talk about being a hero to yourself, your siblings, friends and others.

This is a program for children and their parents. It is free to all but Batman asks each child bring a canned good for the food pantry.

A picture with the Super Hero will be available for each family.

VFW Ladies Auxiliary

The regular monthly meeting of the Ladies Auxiliary to Nesquehoning Memorial VFW Post 8008 will be begin at 1 p.m. on Aug. 10.

All members are to note the day and time change for meetings.

This will be the annual picnic meeting, and all those attending should bring a covered dish.

The meeting will be held in the social hall of the Post Home.

All those planning to attend should contact Maureen at 570- 669-9578 so proper food arrangements can be made.

Meed's free children's Lunch for the week of July 21 at Meed's Methodist Church, 126 W. Catawissa St., is as follows:

Monday: Pancakes and waffles, sausage, fruit

Tuesday: Fish sticks, tater tots, carrots, applesauce

Wednesday: Hot dogs, baked beans, Jell-O

Thursday: Taco salad with assorted toppings, pudding

Friday: grilled cheese, raw veggies, applesauce

There is a drink choice everyday of milk, water or apple juice and freeze pops for dessert

Menu is subject to change

The program is open to all children.
