The lunch menu for week of June 30 for Meed's Methodist Church children's free summer lunch program is:

Ÿ Monday: Beefaroni, salad, fruit drink

Ÿ Tuesday: Chicken nuggets, fries, applesauce, freeze pop, drink

Ÿ Wednesday: Breakfast for lunch of waffles, sausage, fruit, drink

Ÿ Thursday: Pizza, salad, fruit, drink, freeze pop

Golden Agers

The June 9 meeting of the Panther Valley Golden Agers opened with the Pledge of Allegiance and singing of the club song.

A guest speaker from Diakon, Sue Johns, Pottsville explained the many functions of the organization and spoke about health care.

Names are being taken for the annual picnic to be held Aug. 11 at the No. 9 Museum grounds.

The next meeting will be at 1 p.m. Monday at St. John's Slovak Lutheran Social Hall.

A guest speaker is scheduled. Dues must be paid in full before attending a meeting.

Summer lunch program

A free summer lunch program is offered for children at the following locations: Summit Hill Heritage Center, 1 W. Hazard St.; Grace Community Church, 15 W. Ridge St. in Lansford; and Christ Redeemer Church Building, 151 Third St. in Coaldale.

Lunch is served from 11:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. Monday through Friday for children under the age of 18.

The menu for the coming week was listed in Wednesday's Times News.

Historical Society to meet

The Summit Hill Historical Society will meet at the museum tonight at 7 o'clock.

The Lee Mantz Memorial Scholarships will be presented at the meeting.

Agenda items are the spaghetti dinner fundraiser at St. Gabriel's Club on Saturday, the anniversary of Ludlow Park rededication ceremony plans for 11 a.m. June 28, the Summit Hill Hootenanny, bus trips and future programs.

President Lou Vermillion will chair the meeting, which is open to all.

Flag program

The Summit Hill Lions Club is continuing its American flag program in memory and honor of veterans from Summit Hill.

Throughout the "good weather" months, the flag will fly in Ludlow Park in memory or honor of the veterans.

Family members of veterans, or veterans themselves, can request to be scheduled by contacting Joseph O'Gurek, 570-645-5171.

During the week of June 16, the flag will be flown in memory of the late Stanley B. Gieniec Sr. He served as a second lieutenant in the Army during World War II.

Summer lunch program

A free summer lunch program will be offered for children at the following locations:

Community yard sale

The Coaldale community yard sale will take place on June 14, July 12 and Aug. 9. No permit is needed. There is a fee to rent a spot at the Complex. Call 570-645-6310 for more information.

New window hours

Coaldale borough has new hours of operation for its window. They are: Mondays from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m.; Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m.; and Wednesday from noon until 3 p.m.

Golden Agers

The Panther Valley Golden Agers will meet on Monday, June 9 at St. John's Slovak Lutheran Church Social Hall, 1 E. Abbott St. in Lansford beginning at 1 p.m.

The guest speaker will be a representative from Diakon Agency. Bingo is scheduled to be played.

Hospitality committee for June and July will be Violet McHugh and Mary Ann Yusella.

Individuals who have not paid their 2014 dues are asked to do so at this time.

Contests winners

The Summit Hill Memorial Day Parade Committee has announced the winners of two contests it held in conjunction with the Memorial Day Parade on Monday, May 26.

Judging for the home-decorating contest was done by out-of-town residents on Sunday, May 25.

The winners included: first place, Mr. and Mrs. Michael Dubosky, 117 E. Hazard St.; second place, Mr. and Mrs. John Polak, 238 W. White St.; and third place, Jim McHugh, 448 W. White St. The winners received cash prizes of $100, $50 and $25, respectively.

Conservation Club

A special meeting of the Nesquehoning Conservation Club has been scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Wednesday June 4 at Sonny's Pond at the Nature Park.

The past derby and possibly stocking the pond will be discussed.

Members are encouraged to attend.

Lansford

Teen movie night

Panther Valley Public Library will host a teen movie night at 6 p.m. Friday, June 6. The movie is being held in conjunction with the library's Summer Reading Program.

This event is open to teens 13 and older.
