Fall cleanup

Coaldale Borough will have its annual fall cleanup day on Thursday, Oct. 3. Large items will be picked up, including washers, dryers, stoves, refrigerators, a limit of four tires and tire rims.

All items must have all chemicals removed and doors taken off. In addition, up to 10 bags of garbage, not to exceed 50 pounds, or containers, not to exceed 20 gallon, will be collected.

No televisions or electronics.

Cleanup day

Lansford Alive will coordinate a borough-wide fall cleanup program on Sept. 28.

The group welcomes any residents or organizations who are willing to help. Participants will meet at 9 a.m. at Kennedy Park.

Borough council on Wednesday agreed to loan the use of its pickup truck and other equipment, including rakes and shovels, for the effort.

Lansford Alive will provide gloves, vests, bags, and bottled water.

The Panther Valley Public Library, 117 E. Bertsch St., Lansford, offers a free, preschool story hour every Tuesday from 9:30-10:30 a.m.

St. John Lutheran

Tonight at 7 p.m., St. John's Lutheran Church, 1 E. Abbott St., Lansford, will hold an informal worship. This will be a spiritual, peaceful, evening service with Holy Communion. All are welcome to this relaxed, brief, musical, evening prayer. For those who wish to come early, a free simple supper is served at 6 p.m., followed by a brief adult Bible study at 6:30. Preschool story hour

The Panther Valley Public Library, 117 E. Bertsch St., in Lansford, will be offering a free, preschool story hour every Tuesday beginning Tuesday, Sept. 10, from 9:30-10:30 a.m.

Golden Agers

Thirty-three members attended the Aug. 26 meeting of the Panther Valley Golden Agers. To date 13 new members have joined this year.

A sing-along was led by Norma Lee Burke. President Irene Hudasky conducted the meeting and provided an update on a trip to Penn's Peak Sept. 19. A report was given on the upcoming Christmas party by Vice President Shirley Pavlick.

Birthdays were recognized for 12 members.

The hospitality committee for September and October will be Joanne Large and Dee Neifert.

First Congregational Church

Morning Worship will be held at First Congregational Church at 9 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 1, followed by Adult Sunday School at 10 a.m.

The church's Women's Class will hold its first meeting of the 2013-2014 year at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 3, in the church social hall. The theme of this meeting is Keeping a Childlike Innocence. All area women are invited to attend the meetings.

The nursing home ministry team will visit St. Luke's-Miners, Coaldale, at 11 a.m. and MapleShade, Nesquehoning, at 1:30 p.m., both on Wednesday, Sept. 4.

Special meeting

of S.H. council

A special meeting of Summit Hill Borough Council will be held at 6:30 this evening in the borough hall.

The meeting is listed for general purposes.

Garbage collection


Because of Labor Day, there will be changes in the borough garbage collection next week.

Gail Miller, assistant secretary of Summit Hill borough, said:

Tuesday pickup will be on Wednesday.

Wednesday pickup will be on Thursday.

Also, the fall clean up dates have been announced.

Conservation Club

The next meeting of the Nesquehoning Conservation Club will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 4 at Maple Shade Meadows beginning at 6:30 p.m.

Plans for the Community Nature Park will be discussed along with a fall fish stocking.

Members are reminded to bring in their Redners Save-A-Tapes.

VFW Ladies Auxiliary

The regular monthly meeting of the Ladies Auxiliary to Nesquehoning Memorial VFW Post 8008 was held Aug. 13, at the Post Home. President Ellen Driesbach presided.

Prayer Partners in the Park

Tonight at 6:30 p.m., Prayer Partners in the Park, a non-denominational group, will meet at Ludlow Park in Summit Hill to offer prayer, song and worship.

Anyone interested in meeting to pray for personal requests and to pray for the community and the valley are encouraged to attend.

People from all faiths are welcome.
