Panther Valley

Golden Agers

The March 11 meeting of the Panther Valley Golden Agers opened with a prayer to St. Patrick. Sue Dopira led the group singing Irish Ballads. The group extended a welcome back to Janet Keich after a long absence and welcomed new members Mike Vigoda and Mary Bidel.

Plans are being made for the annual picnic to be held at the No. 9 Mine. A Chinese auction will be included.

The Panther Valley JROTC Booster Club will meet on Monday, March 18, at 6 the JROTC Room. Cadets, family members, and interested community members are encouraged to attend. Help is needed to make this a successful year.

First Congregational Church

Services and activities for First Congregational Church, Coaldale, for next week are as follows:

Sunday, March 17 - 9 a.m. Morning Worship; 10 a.m. Sunday School for all ages

Tuesday, March 19 - 7 p.m. Women's Class. Women from all area communities are invited to attend.

Wednesday, March 20 - 6 p.m. Kids Klub; 7 p.m. Lenten Service followed by choir practice.

Sunday, March 24 - 9 a.m. Palm Sunday Service; 10 a.m. Sunday School. Everyone is welcome to attend any of these services.

Free haircuts

There will be free haircuts for kids from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday, at Meed's Methodist Church, 126 W. Catawissa St., Nesquehoning. Adult haircuts will also be given for a donation.

The clothing store at the church will also be open during that time.

Democrats to meet

The Nesquehoning Democrats will meet on Sunday, March 10 at Maple Shade Meadows beginning at 6 p.m. Plans for the upcoming election in May will be discussed.

All registered Democrats are welcome to attend.

The Panther Valley JROTC Booster Club will be meet on Monday, March 18, at 6 p.m. in the JROTC Room. Cadets, family members, and interested community members are encouraged to attend. Much help and support is needed to ensure the continuing success of the JROTC.

Golden Agers

The members of the Panther Valley Golden Agers met on Feb. 25 with president Irene Hudasky presiding.

An inspirational message was read by Norma Lee Burke and Ruth Ann Feane led the group in singing Valentine melodies.

A new sound system was donated to the group by Alex Makita in memory of his late wife, Helen.

The group welcomed the return of member Ann Vandenbord who was recovering from an automobile accident.

The hospitality committee for the months of March and April are Dolores Becker and Louise Searfoss.

VFW Ladies Auxiliary

The regular monthly meeting of the Ladies Auxiliary to Nesquehoning Memorial VFW was held Tuesday, March 12, at the Post Home. President Amanda Breiner presided.

A Miller bloodmobile collection was held at the Post on Jan. 16.

Nesquehoning Post hosted a district meeting on Feb. 17 for the Posts. The next auxiliary district meeting will take place Saturday at noon, hosted by the Walnutport Auxiliary at their Post. The department president will make her official visit at the meeting.

First Congregational Church

Morning Worship and Sunday School will be held at 9 a.m. and 10 a.m., respectively, on Sunday, March 3, at the West Ruddle Street church.

Women's Class, an inspirational and social get-together for all area women, not just members of First Congregational, will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 5.

On Wednesday, March 6, church members will visit St. Luke's-Miner's geriatric department at 11 a.m. and MapleShade at 1:30 p.m.

Kids Klub will meet at 6 p.m. Wednesday, with Lenten services at 7 p.m. followed by choir rehearsal.

Woman's club dinner

The Nesquehoning Woman's Club will host its meeting in the form of a dinner at MapleShade Meadows Assisted Living Center in Nesquehoning on Monday, March 4 at 6:30 p.m.

Those attending the evening dinner will give their $10 to Nan Kevilly to cover an Easter flower and Easter baskets donated to the residents.

President Carol Zickler will hold a brief meeting.

Baseball sign-ups

Lansford Baseball Association will be holding sign-ups for T-ball, Little League and Babe Ruth for players age 5-15 and girls softball for players ages 8-14. Babe Ruth players ages 13-15 from Tamaqua Area are eligible to sign up.

Dates are Feb. 26, 27, and 28 at the Lansford Legion from 6-8 p.m. Registration fees and fundraisers are payable at this time.
