Summit Hill

St. Paul's Lutheran Church

On Sunday holy communion worship service will be held at 10:30 a.m. at St. Paul's. A church council meeting will be held at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, June 10.

The Altar Guild is taking orders for red geraniums to be displayed in the church for the Day of Pentecost on June 8 with a deadline to order of June 1. Contact Daryl Marshall at the church to order or send orders to the church at P.O. Box 55, Summit Hill.

Golden Agers

The Annual Memorial Mass was held on May 12 at St. Joseph R.C. Church in Summit Hill. Fifteen candles were lit for each deceased member as the name was called.

The congregation provided the Hymns. Following the liturgy members gathered for a social. Mother's Day and armed forces songs were sung at the gathering.

There will be no meeting on May 26 due to Memorial Day. The next meeting will be Monday, June 9.

The guest speaker will be Sue Johns, a representative from Diakon Agency.

Nesquehoning Memorial VFW Post 8008 and its ladies auxiliary will hold joint Installation of Officers at 7 p.m. Friday.

All officers should be present.

Auxiliary members are requested to bring a dessert item.

Summit Hill

Food pantry

Food distribution dates for the Summit Hill Food Pantry will be Tuesdays, May 27, June 24, July 22, Aug. 26, Sept. 23, Oct. 28 and Mondays, Nov. 24 and Dec. 22.

Distribution will take place between 10-11:30 a.m.

VFW Ladies Auxiliary sets special meeting

A special meeting of the Nesquehoning VFW Ladies Auxiliary will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday.

The purpose of the meeting will be for electing officers for 2014-15.

It is imperative that all members attend this important meeting for the future of the auxiliary.

Memorial Day Service

A Community Memorial Day Service will be held at 9 a.m. Sunday, May 25, at First Congregational Church, Coaldale.

The Community Choir will sing several patriotic songs honoring the veterans.

Anyone who is interested in singing in the choir is invited to attend the rehearsal at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 22, at the church.

Next week's schedule is as follows:

Sunday, May 18, 9 a.m. Morning Worship; 10 a.m. Sunday School for all ages.

Monday, May 19, 7 p.m. Church Board meeting.

Coaldale UMC

The United Methodist Church, on the corner of Second and W. High streets, Coaldale, has changed it's time of worship with church now beginning at 10:30 a.m.

The church welcomed its new minister, the Rev. Elisandra Garcia, who has recently accepted the position and encourages all to come and meet her and visit the "Little Dutch Church" as it was called in the past.

With the church's long and fruitful history, Rev. Garcia is excited to go forth with community involvement and welcoming new congregants or visitors searching for a church.

First Congregational Church

Morning Worship and Sunday School for all ages will be conducted at 9 and 10 a.m., respectively, on Sunday at First Congregational Church, Coaldale.

The Kids Klub will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 14, while choir rehearsal will take place at 7 p.m.

Morning worship will be held at 9 a.m. Sunday, May 18, followed by Sunday School at 10 a.m.

Vacation Bible


Vacation Bible School will be held at First Congregational Church, Coaldale, from 6 to 8 p.m. July 21 through July 25.

New hours

New window hours in the borough of Coaldale are as follows:

Ÿ 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. Mondays

Ÿ 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays

Ÿ Noon until 3 p.m. Wednesdays

Spring cleanup

Coaldale Borough will have its annual spring cleanup day on Wednesday, May 14.

Large items will be picked up, including washers, dryers, stoves, refrigerators and a limit of four tires/tire rims.

All items must have all chemicals removed and doors taken off.

In addition, up to 10 bags of garbage will be collected.

Summit Hill

Spring clean up

On Wednesday, May 7, Summit Hill will be hosting its spring clean up for the West side of town along with Laurel Drive and East and West Mountaintop Road. This day will also be regular garbage pickup.

Items to be picked up include: tires (no more than five), tire rims, auto body parts, refrigerators, freezers, vending machines, dehumidifiers, water coolers, heat pumps, washers, dryers and stoves.
