Coaldale

Veterans Day Choir

The Community Veterans Day Choir will sing several patriotic songs during Morning Worship Sunday, Nov. 10, at First Congregational Church, Coaldale.

At about 8:50 a.m., before the service, a slide show of photographs of local veterans will take place. It is recommended that attendees arrive early.

This annual program honoring our servicemen and women is spoken to the public.

Golden Agers

The Oct. 28 meeting of the Panther Valley Golden Agers was opened with a spiritual reading by President Irene Hudasky.

Sixteen of the 28 members present were dressed for Halloween and paraded around the social hall singing seasonal songs. Three new members were welcomed.

Due to unforeseen circumstances, guest speaker, Cathy Charles will be rescheduled for a later date.

Membership dues for 2014 are now being collected until April.

The next meeting will begin at 1 p.m., Nov. 11 at St. John's Slovak Lutheran Church Social Hall.

Library food collection

The Panther Valley Public Library, 117 E. Bertsch St., will be collecting nonperishable food items during the month of November. Items collected will be donated to the local Shepherd House Food Pantry to help families in need. Food items may be placed in the collection bin in the library.

Navy Club

The Carbon County Navy Club will hold a Respect the Flag program at 10 a.m. Nov. 5 at the Panther Valley Elementary School.

Nesquehoning

Woman's club

The members of the Nesquehoning Woman's Club will meet on Monday, Nov. 4 at 7 p.m. in the social room of the Zion Lutheran Church.

President Carol Zickler will conduct the meeting. The entertainment will feature the Kaska Ukrainian Dancers.

The Panther Valley Public Library, 117 E. Bertsch St., Lansford, offers a free, preschool story hour from 9:30-10:30 a.m. every Tuesday.

Stories, snacks and activities are provided for the children.

Summit Hill

Clean-up at St. Paul's

St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 123 W. White St., Summit Hill, will hold a church clean-up day beginning at 9 a.m Saturday. Help is needed raking leaves, cleaning gutters and cleaning the interior of the church. Volunteers are greatly appreciated.

Golden Agers

The Oct. 14 meeting of the Panther Valley Golden Agers was well attended with 37 members present. President Irene Hudasky conducted the meeting.

Guest speaker Tina Burns shared her knowledge explaining changes to the medical billing under Medicare and other insurances.

Sign-ups are still being taken for the annual Christmas party to be held Dec. 1 beginning at 4 p.m. at La Dolce Casa in Tamaqua. The last day to register is Nov. 11.

The Panther Valley Republican Club will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 29 at Maple Shade Meadows Community Room.

Plans will be made for a get-out-the-vote effort for the Nov. 5 election.

Among offices to be filled are mayor, tax collector, council and school director.

Praise Band coming

Free fun, food, and fellowship. The Praise Band from Allentown will perform at 6:30 p.m., Nov. 9 at the Coaldale United Methodist Church, Second and High streets, Coaldale.

NCFC Ladies Auxiliary

The New Columbus Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary will meet at 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 4.

The Hospitality committee will be the ladies of the board. President Gerry McConnon will preside.

Lions host social and movie night

The Nesquehoning Lions Club will be hosting an evening social from 6-9 p.m. Thursday at the Nesquehoning Borough Hall.

The Lions Club would like to reach out to the people of Nesquehoning to familiarize them with the work of the local Lions Club and the work of Lions Clubs International.

The Annual Fall Campaign Dinner of the Coaldale Republican Party will be held on Sunday, Nov. 3 at 4:30 p.m. at the Viennese Villa, 6th and Ruddle streets, Coaldale. Guest speakers for the banquet will be attorney Christine Holman, candidate for district attorney of Schuylkill County and Patrick Reynolds, candidate for sheriff of Schuylkill County. Reservations for the dinner must be made by Oct. 28 by contacting town chairman, Bob Ames.
