Nesquehoning

VFW Auxiliary

The regular monthly meeting of the Ladies Auxiliary to Nesquehoning Memorial VFW Post 8008 was held Nov. 12, at the Post Home. Maureen Hirochek, the ranking officer, presided at the session.

The Lehighton Recreation Center has invited those who have lost a loved one to bring a picture of them to a ceremony from 5-7 p.m. Dec. 7 at the center.

Those who have not yet paid their dues are reminded to do so to treasurer Hirochek as soon as possible.

A bloodmobile collection was held on Nov. 20.

St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 123 W. White St., Summit Hill announces the upcoming schedule:

Ÿ Nov. 23: A National Day of Suicide Survivors service will take place at 11 a.m. Those who have been touched by the occurrence of suicide or know of someone who has are encouraged to attend.

Vicar David Lembo, the Rev. Marjorie Keiter, the Rev. James Burdess from St Joseph's Roman Catholic Church of Summit Hill and the Rev. Barbara Lucia, interim pastor of Hope of Christ Presbyterian will be part of the service.

Free Thanksgiving dinner

Meed's United Methodist Church, 126 W. Catawissa St., Nesquehoning will host a free Thanksgiving dinner on Sunday, Nov. 24.

There will be two seatings with the first one scheduled for 3 p.m. and the second for 5 p.m. Reservations can be made by contacting Dianne at 570-669-6764 or Mark at 570-669-9444. There will be no take outs.

All are welcome to attend the free dinner.

Lansford

Music worship service

A special music worship service at St. John the Evangelist Lutheran Church, 1 E. Abbott St., Lansford, will be held Sunday, Nov. 17.

The public is invited to worship in a fresh, new, yet familiar way this week only as a group of musicians, led by Alex Haggerty, lead worship and bless the congregation with their talents.

Worship with Holy Communion begins at 8:45 a.m.

Summit Hill

Food pantry

The Summit Hill Food Pantry will be open on Monday, Nov. 25, from 10 a.m. to noon. The food pantry is located in the Summit Hill Heritage Center on Hazard and Chestnut streets. There is to be no parking in the alley prior to 9:45 a.m. and absolutely no parking in the vacant lot. Recipients are reminded to bring along extra strong shopping/tote bags.

Coaldale

Veterans Day Choir

The Community Veterans Day Choir will sing several patriotic songs during Morning Worship Sunday, Nov. 10, at First Congregational Church, Coaldale.

At about 8:50 a.m., before the service, a slide show of photographs of local veterans will take place. It is recommended that attendees arrive early.

This annual program honoring our servicemen and women is spoken to the public.

Golden Agers

The Oct. 28 meeting of the Panther Valley Golden Agers was opened with a spiritual reading by President Irene Hudasky.

Sixteen of the 28 members present were dressed for Halloween and paraded around the social hall singing seasonal songs. Three new members were welcomed.

Due to unforeseen circumstances, guest speaker, Cathy Charles will be rescheduled for a later date.

Membership dues for 2014 are now being collected until April.

The next meeting will begin at 1 p.m., Nov. 11 at St. John's Slovak Lutheran Church Social Hall.

Library food collection

The Panther Valley Public Library, 117 E. Bertsch St., will be collecting nonperishable food items during the month of November. Items collected will be donated to the local Shepherd House Food Pantry to help families in need. Food items may be placed in the collection bin in the library.

The Carbon County Navy Club will hold a Respect the Flag program at 10 a.m. Nov. 5 at the Panther Valley Elementary School.

The members of the Nesquehoning Woman's Club will meet on Monday, Nov. 4 at 7 p.m. in the social room of the Zion Lutheran Church.

President Carol Zickler will conduct the meeting. The entertainment will feature the Kaska Ukrainian Dancers.

The Panther Valley Public Library, 117 E. Bertsch St., Lansford, offers a free, preschool story hour from 9:30-10:30 a.m. every Tuesday.

Stories, snacks and activities are provided for the children.

Clean-up at St. Paul's

St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 123 W. White St., Summit Hill, will hold a church clean-up day beginning at 9 a.m Saturday. Help is needed raking leaves, cleaning gutters and cleaning the interior of the church. Volunteers are greatly appreciated.
