Golden Agers

The Aug. 13 meeting of the Panther Valley Golden Agers opened with prayer, the Pledge of Allegiance and the singing of "God Bless America." Minnie Kennedy led the group singing.

The hospitality committee for the months of September and October will be Polly Evan and Ranie Kleppinger.

Nancy Conzoneri gave her Sunshine report with many on the sick list.

The #9 Mine Museum was approved as the location for the summer picnic which is scheduled for Sept. 17 at 1 p.m.

The Fire Line Hotel will cater the affair.

Bingo canceled

The weekly bingo games held at St. Katharine Drexel Catholic Church, Lansford, have been canceled for Thursday, Aug. 16.

The event was canceled due to a church service which will take place at the church.

This will be a spiritual, peaceful, evening service with Holy Communion. All are welcome to this relaxed, brief, musical, evening prayer. Golden Agers

The Panther Valley Golden Agers began their July 23 meeting with a moment of silence for the victims of the shootings in Colorado. Sue Dopira led the group singing. Members of the chorus attended the meeting to discuss the possibility of visiting nursing homes in the future.

Members who would like to attend the outdoor picnic must have their dues paid up to date. More details on the date and location of the picnic will soon be available.

The next meeting will be held on Aug. 13. Anyone 55 and older is welcome to attend.

Nesquehoning

Safe Kids

Residents of Nesquehoning who would like to apply for a Nesquehoning Safe Kids card to be put in their window should contact either Valerie Higgins at (570) 668-2386 or Carol Zickler at (570) 669-6127.

The program is sponsored by the Nesquehoning Woman's Club and each applicant will have a background check by the Nesquehoning Police Department before being accepted.

The cards placed in home windows are for the purpose of allowing school children to come to your door if there should be an emergency on the way to or from school.

Feed the People

Feed the People will serve meals during the month of August as follows: Tuesday, Aug. 7 at the Summit Hill Heritage Center, 1 W. Hazard St. from 10:30 a.m. to noon; Wednesday, Aug. 15 at the Trinity Lutheran Church, 104 E. Abbott St., Lansford, from 10:30 a.m. to noon.

Feed the People will now begin serving dinner on the third Wednesday of each month, beginning Aug. 15 at St. John's Lutheran Church, 1 E. Abbott St., Lansford from 5:30 to 7 p.m.

First Congregational Church

Morning Worship will be held at First Congregational Church, Coadale, at 9 a.m. Sunday, July 29, with Adult Sunday School following at 10 a.m.

Church members will make their nursing home visits on Wednesday, Aug. 1, at St. Luke's Miners, Coaldale, at 11 a.m. and at MapleShade, Nesquehoning, at 1:30 p.m.

The planning committee for the roast beef dinner will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 2, at the church.

Services for Sunday, Aug. 5, are Morning Worship at 9 a.m. and Adult Sunday School at 10 a.m.
