Bethany Church news

Bethany Evangelical Congregational Church, North Street, Lehighton, will hold Sunday School at 9:30 a.m. for all ages; morning worship, 10:45 a.m. Kid's Club for children kindergarten through fourth grades is held every Monday at 6 p.m.; prayer meeting is every Wednesday at 7 p.m. Wrapped in prayer ministry is every Friday at 7 p.m.

Trinity happenings

Trinity Lutheran Church, 175 S. Third St., Lehighton, will hold Sunday worship with Holy Communion at 9 a.m. Interim pastor the Rev. Don Hayn presides. Coffeehouse fellowship follows.

Holy Trinity Happenings

Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 502 Lafayette Ave., Palmerton, will hold worship services with Holy Communion at 8 and 10:45 a.m., Sunday, Jan. 19.

Sunday School is at 9:30 a.m. The 10:45 a.m. service will be a brief service so as to allow time for the annual congregational meeting, which will follow the service.

Holy Trinity Circle of Angels will be participating in the Polar Plunge of 2014, to be held Jan. 18 at Scott's Park at Larry Holmes Drive and 3rd Street, Easton. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m., and the plunge will be at noon.

Trinity happenings

Trinity Lutheran Church, 175 S. Third St., Lehighton, will hold "Baptism of Our Lord" Sunday worship with holy communion at 9 a.m. Music will be provided by Trinity Praise Band. Included in the worship time will be recognition of 2013 baptisms. Interim pastor the Rev. Don Hayn will preside. Coffeehouse fellowship follows.

Sunday School classes meet for students ages 3 through grade 12 at 10:30 a.m.

The annual congregational meeting follows the worship service next Sunday. Sunday School classes will not meet Jan. 19.

Show and Tell

As has been the custom for the last several years, the Monday, Jan. 13 meeting of the Palmerton Area Historical Society will feature "Show and Tell," with participants bringing antique or unusual items for the audience to try and identify.

The meeting will begin at 7 p.m. in the Knight's Gallery of the Palmerton Area Library with a short business session, followed by the program. The public is invited to attend. There is no charge.

All Night Party planning meeting

Lehighton Area High School Class of 2014 All Night Party Planning committee will meet at 7 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 9 in the high school cafeteria. Meetings of individual committees may meet earlier. All parents and guardians of students in the class are encouraged to attend

Newspaper drive

Members of St. John's Lutheran Church will hold their monthly newspaper drive on Saturday, Jan. 4. There will be one sweep of the Palmerton, Aquashicola, and Little Gap areas beginning at 8 a.m.

Papers should be bundled and placed within sight of the collectors. They are collecting papers only, no magazines. The shiny inserts are acceptable. They also need grocery size brown paper bags.

Trinity happenings

Trinity Lutheran Church, 175 S. Third St., Lehighton, will hold First Saturday worship at 5 p.m. with the Rev. Michael Frost, pastor of Zions Stone Church, New Ringgold, presiding.

Sunday worship with Holy Communion, will begin at 9 a.m., which includes installation of congregational council members for 2014. Interim pastor, the Rev. Don Hayn, will preside. Coffeehouse fellowship follows.

Sunday School classes for students ages 3 through grade 12 will be held at 10:30 a.m.

First Tuesday quiet communion will be held at 10 a.m. Jan. 7.

Palmerton Lions Club Meeting

Palmerton Lions will meet at 7 p.m. Monday, Jan. 6 at the Palmerton Library. The 6 p.m. Monday, Jan. 20 meeting will be held at the Fireline Hotel.

Community members are reminded to donate used eyeglasses at Houser Newman Eye Associates, Walters Optometric, First Northern Bank & Trust, Citizens Bank, all located on Delaware Avenue in Palmerton and/or the Palmerton Area High School located on Fire Line Road, or by giving them to any Lions member.

Eyeglasses are recycled for those in other countries who are unable to afford corrective lenses.

Miller-Keystone Blood Center

College students are encouraged to give Miller-Keystone Blood Center an hour of their time, and a pint of blood, and they'll give you the satisfaction of knowing you have saved up to three lives; a free mini-physical; refreshments; and a chance to win an iPad.

If you haven't donated since Oct. 30, weigh at least 110 pounds, and are in general good health, you are eligible.

Miller-Keystone will be at the First United Church of Christ, next to Palmerton Borough Hall, from 11:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 27.

2013 Palmerton church tours

The Palmerton Area Historical Society is sponsoring a tour of the Palmerton area churches on Saturday, Dec. 28.

A collectible guide, with color photos of each of the churches by Connie Reinhart, is available for a contribution of goods or money to support the CACPAC Pantry's distribution of food and personal care items to those in need in the community.
